The last days- update

Many things today made me think of all the ways corporate did us no favors on the lead up to closing our plant.  But it was summed up in one ten-minute period this afternoon.

(Times approximate)
3:58 PM:  Boss comes up to my fabric rack (that would be the J.O.K.E. that I've mentioned previously.), looks at a roll of fabric in tube #2.  "How much is on this roll?" she asks.  I skip over to my pile of yardage tags.  "About 67 yards", I say.
"Can I take it?"
"Yeah, I'm done with it."
"We need to send 25 yards to (another plant), but I figure we'll just send them the whole thing, that should take care of them."

4:02: Boss comes by, "They're idiots, Chris, idiots I tell you."
Now, I know she means which ever of our plants is requesting the fabric transfer- probably California, since they think it's midday there, it's midday everywhere, even though their 1:30 is our quitting time.  "How so?" I ask.
"They just upped their request after I just got it ready to ship, "  she says.  "From 25 yards to 700!"

I've been the "happy"(?) recipient of a plant that closed down (back in Philly, thanks to a nasty divorce between the owner and his wife, but that's a whole other post), and it really saddens me to this day, because ALL the 15 other guys I worked with were just that - WORKERS!
    (and damn fine ones, too)
A majority of them were black (the plant was in Germantown), but there was NEVER any racial tension AT ALL.
Hell, we just all got the work done TOGETHER.
We even played chess at lunch...tells you lots about your co-workers.
I really hate to see the small businesses up and close...then again, I hate to see ANY business have to close.

Used to be a time when no matter how large OR small a company was, it always had SOME place...some niche to fit into well enough.

These days, even the largest of companies can shut their doors (recent example - Circuit City).

But, as long as the GOVERNMENT makes it SO damn difficult to OPEN a new business (thanks to over-regulations out the butt) we'll have to muddle through somehow.

I pray you find something even BETTER in the job market soon.
Lord knows America needs her workers more than ever.

    Stay strong.
    Stay safe up there.
