Weird coincidences and Presidential picks

Last week at this time, We were butt-deep in snow and I was telling you about the hazardous way home after the power went out and we were sent home from work after 2 hours.

This week, with no weather, no obvious reason, and no hazardous driving, the power at work went out halfway through lunch and we went home an hour and a half early.

Is this to be the new thing- the every-Wednesday power failure?  And could we schedule it on Mondays?  Actually, this week Tuesday would have been better.  To tell you everything that went off the rails would take a booklet the size of your new phone's instruction manual, with the Spanish translation.  And probably trigger an insane killing spree.  So, let's just say, as I did, "You couldn't screw things up more with an instruction guide" (said at 9 AM, no less), and move on.

Obama released his NCAA tournament bracket today.  For those who don't do sportsspeak, every year college basketball has a postseason tournament, currently inviting the "top" 68 teams.  And filling out your predictions on who'll win is next to the football Super Bowl as a nationwide tradition.  I did mine Sunday as the bracket was named.  Last year I was pretty much out of things right off the bat with all the crazy upsets, and I expect the difference this year will be minimal.  I took Syracuse to beat Baylor in the final, with Michigan State (the hated Sparty) and Louisville in the final four.

Ironically, Obama's bracket has Sparty and Louisville in the championship game, with Sparty winning.  Which is fine with me, because I hate Sparty (did I mention that?) and will enjoy rooting against him/them.  He has Florida and Arizona in his final four; I have Syracuse knocking off Florida in the "elite eight" round, and my Oklahoma Sooners taking out Arizona early.  Again ironically, Obama has the Sooners losing right off the bat to North Dakota State, who nearly was kept out of the tourney by down-the-street IPFW, winning their conference tourney by just 3 points (albeit they did beat our hometown boys by 11 twice during the season).

Now last night, the "play in games" (aka we wanted to add a few more teams, so we have eight teams play each other for the last four spots) started, and I went down in flames twice, with the opportunity to do the same tonight.  Sigh.

I think that's it for today.  Scrappy's been trying to talk me into an early dinner, and that is beginning to sound good to me.

  1. Have to say, we'll watch the games but not likely bet on any of them. As for work... I had the best day ever on Tuesday, until I got back to the office, ripped my pants (in the leg area no less, and not even in a "fashionable" location) and then had to stay for another two hours to put up mail. *sigh* At least I didn't have to carry it all today because today was my day off... which was spent doing more than if I had worked.

    1. You've been having a lot of work days like that lately. I like not feeling alone, but maybe we could get a little mercy?

  2. Just no broken legs, please.

  3. The power outages have to be frustrating. Never mind, I can read that they are, in fact frustrating.
I hate the "presidential picks". Not who he picked, that we entertain at all who a president has picked no matter who the president is. Does he really have the time to watch enough games, or even enough Sportscenter to actually be informed? Yeah, I know he likes basketball, but he also likes high-waisted jeans, why aren't we asking him his picks for fashion week? If I was president, I'd simply respond, "I pick whoever the Vegas odds pick."

    1. By the time the outages hit, the work has drained the frustration quota. Oh, and guess what? It came back on ten minutes after they let us out.

As for Obama and picking, well, he wouldn't have time to do them... were he governing.

  4. Well, thank goodness Obama listed his NCAA picks. For a minute there, I'd thought the world had TOTALLY spun out of control.

    1. I'm usually happy if I can get my winner to sneak into the final four... But if I do win, I'll fly out and take y'all to dinner!

  6. I used to hate when the power went out or the computers went down at work. There's only so much catching up with co-workers you can do before you start itching to either leave or get everything restored.

I saw your title, Presidential Picks, and thought you were making predictions on the republican side. Ha!

    1. I'll wait until we actually get a crowd gathered up in New Hampshire to do that.

  7. Sorry about the recurring power outages. Frustrating, I'm sure.

Don't watch basketball, so that was mostly lost on me. I hope your teams do well!

    1. Like I said above,, the outage isn't near as frustrating as the work it sends us home from, lately.

    1. With one somewhat minor exception, it was better, thanks for the wishes! Today, we got as far as the bark park. Imagine a small dry spot to sit surrounded by goo and muck. Not quite that bad, but no place for your white tennis!

    2. Tennies... sorry, my keyboard gets lazy.

  9. Chris:
Maybe there's MORE to those outages than people believe...
Perhaps it's a way to "redistribute the energy" to those less fortunate (and government-sponsored)
Rolling blackouts should ONLY happen in Cali...LOL.

As to the bracketocalpyse...let's say Obummer should be worrying MORE about our place in the world and how WE can avoid confrontations with our geo-political enemies, instead of picking "bassabawl" teams.
But hey, that's just my opinion, brother.

Stay safe (and well-fed) up there.

    1. Not to curb your conspiratorial rumoring, but I suspect it came from a half-assed fix one week that lasted exactly one week and 2 hours, 45 minutes.

And you know, his picking a bracket wouldn't bother me a bit, if he wasn't ducking security briefings to do them!

At least it was better than "wild" Bill.... "Monica, pass me your lipstick, I wanna do my bracket, and I left my pen in my pants."

"Hmmph! It was the ONLY thing you left in your pants!"

  10. Wish we had some power outages so i could go home!
March Madness what? Not a fan so could care less who wins. It was fun years ago when UT Austin was in top 4. Long time ago!

    1. See? Now THERE'S the attitude to have over power failures!

Geez you made me think that was a zillion years ago! It's only been 11 years!
