Odd and ends

I won't tell you what a day it was at work- though I can sum it up without involving witness protection by mentioning that I caught the plant manger at noon, and told him, " I have several things to say to you about this day.  But about four "awesome"s, a couple of head nods, and two or three eye rolls ought to cover it."

Been walking the last couple of days with my friend from way down south (well, south of Fort wayne, north of Indy), her lovely daughter, and their two canine companions.  Been too busy chatting to take any pics (maybe she'll grace us with some of hers later), but here are some other recent shots:

A better look at our latest tree casualty.  Pretty much exploded.

Mr and Mrs Woody pose

I just take the pics, I don't explain 'em.
Moving on, a friend's post on FB made me assess this whole Confederate flag ordeal (beyond the statement that people seriously need to get a life.  Now I see WB won't even licence the Dukes of Hazard's General Lee anymore.  Anyway, here was my FB take ( reconstructed as apparently FB removed the post):

This flag is a battle flag, symbolizing the brave men who fought and died in the name of what they believed (however misguided).  You can attach racism or whatever to their cause, but this isn't about that.  It is about sacrifice and honor.

I for one am sick and tired of people on all sides of the equation overreacting and forbidding us to observe what we have observed, pray as we have prayed, do as we have done for generations in the name of "someone might be offended".    And here's my final statement on the subject:

However, in my fruitless search for my original posting, I see that my friend indeed did post pics of yesterday's walk:

Yours truly and lovely daughter

Here's something I just saw on my way here I thought you might like:

Imagine only being able to live in a narrow band of very hot water surrounding hydrothermal vents in the Southern Ocean—and surviving on bacteria that grow on your hairy chest.

Such is the life of a newfound species of crab, known as Kiwa tyleri. Back in 2010 scientists found this small creature clinging to the sides of vents, in a frigid region of ocean northeast of the Antarctic Peninsula, but have now officially named and described it in a study published Wednesday in PLOS ONE.

Previously the scientists affectionately referred to it as the “Hoff” crab, after the hirsute actor David Hasselhoff. But the scientific name of these small crabs, whose shells can grow up to 2 inches in length, honors deep-sea biologist Paul Tyler, says his colleague and study lead author Sven Thatje, of the University of Southampton.

Separated at creation?  Maybe to a scientist...
Anyway, I gotta get ready for bed, and Laurie just had me do her a throwback Thursday video which she will soon hate me for that I must upload, so that's it for tonight.

Excellent photos as always...and you're right on w/ the "flag-flap".
That sound you hear is ALL those knees being JERKED...I hear it too...LOL.

A NON-issue that being brought up and stuck in ALL our faces to divert our attention....from WHAT, perhaps?
Gotta keep watching BOTH hands of the leftist charlatans out there...you know they're reshaping this country...and the rest of us need to get it back before it gets too far gone.

    Good post.

    Stay safe up there, brother.

    1. I knew before I read your post we'd be on the same page here. They can take a beautiful thing like a rainbow and smear it with gay BS and we're "homophobes" if we don't like it. But we can't fly a army flag because it's racist.

  2. The shoes on the fence cracked me up.

    1. I will see if Laurie put it up on FB yet. If she did, I'll tag you. If not, I'll kick her rump and post it on the blog Saturday.

  3. I don't get the sudden outrage over the Confederate flag either. I have several buddies from the South who proudly fly their flag, and none of them are racists.

What happened to the poor tree??

    Lovely photos, as always.

    1. The tree, I'm guessing, took a shot of lightning. There were pieces of bark driven into the ground sticking straight up all around it.

  4. I'm pretty tired of the number of people telling me what I must do or think. The Land of the Free - isn't. It's like being at an immature middle school cafeteria where the bullies have their every wish met...all while spouting off how supportive they are of the other kids that they bully.
