I thank you for your support. I'm with you on the wishing for an alternate way to memorialize our loved ones. Barb is right up my alley on that one. I can only hope you are right about my Uncle. I wouldn't blame him if you weren't.CWMartinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06798867734074134647noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5822869016413307981.post-29996007105527308572015-06-15T16:44:55.127-04:002015-06-15T16:44:55.127-04:00Fabulous post Chris. I believe in having a memorial party to talk about the fun and good things/times. I ...I haven't been to many funerals in my life. I managed to make it to both of my parents' funerals--I thought it might look bad if I didn't. Then there were a few others. Most though I've managed to evade, usually because of my distance or some kind of conflict. Like you I'm not a fan. Seeing dead people and going to funeral homes just make me feel a little squirmy.

That song by the Browns is one I remembering hearing as a child and probably at least once or twice a year for the past few decades. It's a charming song that evokes sweet memories but one that rarely seems to get played anymore.

Arlee Bird
A to Z Challenge Co-host
Tossing It Out
Arlee Birdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11663942782929929334noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5822869016413307981.post-23066579165703194252015-06-15T09:52:55.362-04:002015-06-15T09:52:55.362-04:00Chris- this is so great. I was huge fan of him. You know everyone handles death differently and there is no right or wrong way. You handle things the best you know how . Period. You were lucky to have a wonderful uncle. He appreciates you still looking down from Heaven. hollihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08558294192449866387noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5822869016413307981.post-85708108067174330632015-06-14T20:40:41.565-04:002015-06-14T20:40:41.565-04:00Why do I have nothing this morning I sit here I re...Why do I have nothing this morning I sit here I read I thought oh yeah I get that and I like that person but still nothing in way of comment comes to mind so you get this dribble insteadJo-Anne's Ramblingshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11418152399382818709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5822869016413307981.post-86131636866363211862015-06-13T16:24:02.426-04:002015-06-13T16:24:02.426-04:00As much as I love music, I have a hard time gettin...As much as I love music, I have a hard time getting too sentimental over many of these stars passing, as I liked what they DID, but did not know THEM.

I remember though, the weird feeling when Warren Zevon passed, and knowing that that last album (The Wind) was it. I had the same feeling when a favorite author died and I finished his last book. And I am sure that when it happens, Todd Rundgren's passing will leave a void.

Mostly when the musicians die, it becomes a reminder of the borrowed time I am on.

Regarding the whole funeral thing-I hate them. I was getting a lot of pressure to do a reading at my sister's funeral, and just could not do it. I can do the pall bearer thing ok-done that more than a handful of times. I felt real guilty for a while about not doing the reading, but I'd have lost it, and I am not so big on sharing my feelings in front of a church full of people (when you die at 34 there's a lot bigger crowd than when you die in your 80's).

I guess I am not getting to a point-but what I am trying to say is, you can only do what you can do, and your uncle would understand.

Clint Eastwood said it best in -"we've all got it coming."

Great post, CW!

Larry
DiscConnectedhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07013919800637508392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5822869016413307981.post-83205593151506459212015-06-13T07:04:20.719-04:002015-06-13T07:04:20.719-04:00Chris:
That was possible the best eulogy you could...Chris:
That was possible the best eulogy you could make for those we have lost...without eulogizing.
Oh, the stories those old phonographs could tell...
And I couldn't even bring myself to be a pall bearer for my DAD (certainly not due to a lack of respect of love)...never have been and have no desire to do so. Dunno why, either.
Just doesn't seem right or maybe (like you) there is a selfishness in NOT wanting to be THAT m,ch a part of their :finality": on Earth.

Excellent post.

Stay safe up there, brother.Bob G.https://www.blogger.com/profile/09222203353717749897noreply@blogger.com
