What we saw on the fourth

After a long excursion at Shoaff Park Thursday, I hadn't really plan on us two broken down old men (Me and Scrappy) doing any kind of walk beyond a morning trip to the bark park today.  But with such a beautiful day, we decided just to take a quick walk down to the barn.

It was hot, and I thought that a seat on the rock at the southeast corner of the barn would be a good place to chill.  So we proceeded down the trail that divides "soccer fields 15-17" from "parking in the grass".  But about two thirds of the way to the barn, we saw a fox.

As you can see, we were just above the abandoned cottage when the fox ran across in front of us (the arrow.  So we edged to the left side of the trail, hoping to come out high of the intersection and move towards the barn and see where she went. But about the time we hit the crotch of the "Y" by the barn, she came out behind us (at the "X")- and started barking at us.

Now I tried to record things, but my camera apparently demands I HOLD the button to record rather than just hit it and go.  Thus what I can give you is a tiny bit of the tongue lashing we got:

She barked at us for quite a while; then ran for the woods, where we got these shots:

We think she might have had kits either in the weeds next to the barn or in the barn itself.  (We MAY have heard one yip when we first got to the aforementioned rock, but I think the offender got an elbow from a sibling to shut up.)  Scrappy did his best to pursue, but I didn't want to scare her- she looked like little more than a pup herself.

I do have some earlier pics too, for your viewing enjoyment.  Many of you read the story of how the contractor working on the bridge near IPFW let their barge full of scrap float down to the dam;  but apparently they took no chances on other equipment...

Yep, a boat with an outboard.  Don't often see this...

  2. My grandparents ranch had a fox living on it. It was our "secret" because I guess it's rare in that area. We'd see her on top of the hay stacks every morning.

    1. Still a rarity for us. Especially from behind!

  3. We have a fox that visits our yard on a regular basis. He (she) likes to sit on the top of the sand mound in the back and drive my dog frikkin' crazy. I'd let Pal Penwasser off his leash, but I'm afraid the fox would kick his ass.

    1. Not hoisted... just suspended, as if to protect it from thievery, as the crew was LOOOOONNNG gone.
