Martin world news

ITEM:  Well, the idiots were a bit light this week... unless you live in Bobby G's neighborhood.  But I will do my best to "Strew my trash" in an entertaining way.

ITEM:  Usually I manage to tumble onto at least ONE entertaining list in a two week period.  But a list of the "Dumbest states in the USA" was totally based on per capita BAs and BSs, which left ME saying B.S.  When you can't even bother to boil it to degrees per opportunity to EARN one- something that really handicapped poor states like WVA- well, I gotta label it "Dumbest list in the USA."  Even the funny stuff reporters are getting lazy these days.

The closest I came to a funny list was a list of unusual punishments by judges.  These included a dude whose cruel and unusual sentence involved home detention with his mother- which he begged and cursed to get out of because of mum's 24/7 gossiping; two Ohioans who threw beer at a woman and got a choice between 60 days in jail or an hour of walking the streets in drag; a judge who threw his whole courtroom in jail (46 people) because somebody's cell went off and nobody admitted to it; a slumlord whose sentence included house arrest in one of his own dumps; and a woman whose sentence for letting her horse starve to death included 3 of her thirty days in jail being on bread and water.

ITEM: Not a good week for women in the news.  We had one woman who hung up on a deputy trying to get info to help find her missing daughter because it was her turn on stage at the strip bar;  two woman "teaching" at a Catholic high school who had multiple affairs with students (as well as the male principal who tried to not only cover it up, but got into the act only to be charged with harassment); And a woman who got drunk at a bar, her dog ran away, and she called 911 multiple times to report the lost dog- even as the cops stood there trying to get her to take a cab home because the Bartender called them.

Asides to these stories- the stripper's daughter made her way safe home to grandma, while the mom later claimed she "put the deputy on hold to take another call".  The mother of the latest of the "teacher affairs" complained to the Archdiocese- only to have child services turned on HER...  And the dog had not been found, because the owner was too drunk to give the police a good description.

ITEM:  How we do it in Jolly Ol':

The master of a Cambridge University college that banned dogs from accommodation has been allowed to keep his canine companion after persuading officials it was "a very large cat".
YoYo the bassett hound lives at Selwyn College with Roger Mosey.
Mr Mosey said cats were allowed but dogs were "technically" banned.
However, after a past master set a "dog-owning precedent" decades ago, the college "tongue-in-cheek agreed YoYo could stay as a large cat", he said.

Mr Mosey, former editorial director of the BBC, became master of Selwyn College in October.

"Many former masters have kept cats but the greatest master, Professor Owen Chadwick, did keep dogs during the 1950s, 60s and 70s," he said.
Permission was granted by the council, and duly noted in the minutes: "i. College Animal - Noting precedent under the mastership of Professor Chadwick, Council approved the Master's request to adopt a Very Large Cat in the Master's Lodge."

Yup.  Looks like a cat to me...
ITEM:  You wonder why India is so messed up?  Wait for the punch line...

An Indian activist who was thought to have died in a car fire near the capital, Delhi, has been found alive in the southern city of Bangalore.
Police said Chandra Mohan Sharma had "faked his death" to live with another woman.
Mr Sharma has now been arrested on suspicion of killing the man whose body was found in the charred car.

Mr Sharma is a freedom of information activist and a member of the anti-corruption Aam Aadmi Party.

And apparently  oh-fer-two in "walking the walk".

ITEM:  You think your police force is bad off?

The high-security building housing Interpol's South Africa office has been burgled for the fifth time in three weeks.
The thieves made off with laptops, cameras and other electronics, and in one incident they may have entered the building using internal access cards, the Times Live website reports. A spokesman for Hawks, the anti-corruption unit that suffered the break-in, confirmed the incident but added: "At this stage it does not appear to be serious."

Ouch.

ITEM:  You'll notice that I haven't commented on the latest fad yet- the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.  I have however seen stories that include some idiot on FB pushing a letter (thoroughly discredited) that ALS is spending all the money to pay executive salaries; a grandpa who is charged with child abuse after pouring the ice water over himself and HIS TEN MONTH OLD GRANDDAUGHTER; and a mechanic who eschewed water for used motor oil.

I would ask that no one bother challenging me.  Not because I'm against ALS, or the other thing about ALS using abortion stem-cells for research.  Nope, my only objection is, I give to many causes including our sponsored child, and do not feel the need to be "social media pressured" into it.  Everyone else, feel free to have at it and God Bless You.

ITEM:  Violence in sports much?

How about this- a bench clearing brawl in the Lingerie Football League (Actually, they call themselves the "Legends Football League" now) playoff semi-finals.  This went on up to and including a female player taking a swing at a male coach.  Don't get excited, though; unlike many YouTube lady-fight videos, none of the warriors lost any clothes (or any MORE clothes).

ITEM:  Remember last week's post about the Egyptian Mufti standing up to ISIS?

In this image made from an undated cartoon broadcast on state-run al-Iraqiya TV in Iraq, a cartoon character portrayed as a member or a supporter of the Islamic State group sings a song. Television networks across the Middle East have begun airing cartoons and comedy programs using satire to criticize the group and its claim of representing Islam. And while not directly confronting their battlefield gains, the shows challenge the legitimacy of the Islamic group and chips away at the fear some have that they are unstoppable. The Arabic writing on the flag reads, "One Arab nation," top, and "Having an eternal message." "ISIS" on the cartoon character's head cover is the outdated acronym of the group. See, they don't get mad when an Islamist group kills, murders, bombs.  No, they get pissed when one group say they are the ONE authority.  "I kill for Allah" is okay.  "I speak for Allah", not so much.

ITEM:  Another case of, "Why couldn't I be there when..."

Nearly $21,000 is missing after the cash fell from the roof of an armored truck that had picked it up from a soon-to-be-closed Atlantic City casino.
GardaWorld armored car services picked up the cash at Revel on Aug. 6.
An incident report obtained by The Press of Atlantic City says surveillance video showed the bag holding the cash on the rear driver's side roof as the truck left Revel. The bag was still on the roof when the truck pulled away from nearby Resorts Casino Hotel.
It's not clear where the bag fell off.

However, it is clear where the drivers' careers are going...

ITEM:  Finally, I made the big time!  A friend e-mailed me this last week:

Tried to go to your blog while I was at the library and look what came up!

So I tried e-mailing the Library to find out what it was that got me bashed... no response as yet.  Was it the Ferguson rant?  the "That's gay" discussion KC and I had months ago?  Obama jokes?  OH, I bet it was having Marilyn Chambers on the Time Machine Beauty contest last year!

Good grief!  ISIS cartoons and porn stars in ONE post?  No wonder I'm Banned!

Yeah, that darn "opportunity" thing ALWAYS seems to get in peoples' way,. doesn't it?

I thought those sentences were funny..in DRAG (as long as they looked somewhat convincing...or not.
And tossing the whole courtroom jail?
Maybe CELLS should NOT be allowed in there in the FIRST place???

Betcha that Brit's "very large cat" is a DOCTOR WHO fan, too...because we know that "bow-ties are cool".

The S. Africa ripoff surprises me, because I think EVERYONE there can carry a fill-auto sub machine gun...you'd THINK that'd be a crime DETERRENT?

Football cat-fight...what WILL they think of next?

That cartoon looks like CASTRO...and I wonder what all the ATHEISTS will think when THEY meet a radical Islamist...who detests a NON-believer even mpre than Christian "infidels"?

Now THAT is one bag I would NEVER have "recycled"...LOL.

As to WHY the ACPL has restricted you?
Haven't the foggiest, but I will not be astonished that I am also "on the list"..
And if I'm NOT, then YOU need to put more GARFIELD cartoons in your posts...ROFL!

    Excellent post.

    Stay safe up there.

  5. >>... a judge who threw his whole courtroom in jail (46 people) because somebody's cell went off and nobody admitted to it

That can't be for real, right?

I mean, without evidence the judge jails 46 people in his courtroom?

If that's true, and if I were one of the 46 people, I would be dead and famous right now. (Sounds good to me!) I would NOT go to jail, even though I would kill a judge and a bailiff.

I would like to see some judge try that with me.

    1. About half posted bail on the spot, the others were let loose the next day, and apparently the judge was forthwith suspended. As I recall, the deed happened in 2005.
