Pictures with a little world news

I thought today might be a good day to regale you with weekend pics and news tidbits...

So I happen across this article on FoxNews titled, "Venus is a 'Russian planet,' Kremlin top scientist claims".  This is a few days after Laurie told me of a news story that claimed they had actually found life in Venus's atmosphere (What they found was a chemical that they have only found produced organically on earth).  So I thought I would check out their reasoning.

“Our country [the Soviet Union] was the first and only one to successfully land on Venus,” (Dmitry)Rogozin (head of their space agency) said in an interview with The Times.

Now is it because they got there first that it is Russian- or is it because of the NEXT thing he said:

“The spacecraft gathered information about the planet — it is like hell over there.”

"It is like hell over there..."

See someone's parking a boat here now...

By the way, new Blogger is fricking terrible, if anyone wants to know.  I've seen fewer bugs in a jar of honey left out on a hot day...

Sigh...

Anyway, did ya hear about the recent Canadian invasion of the United States?  Here, from BBC...

A woman has been arrested on suspicious of sending a package containing ricin poison to US President Donald Trump, according to US immigration officials.

The unnamed woman was found at a border crossing in Buffalo, New York, as she tried to enter the US from Canada, and was reportedly carrying a gun.

The letter containing the deadly poison is believed to have come from Canada, according to investigators there.

I guess one of them really did move to Canada after Trump was elected!

Look!  They're drowning themselves!

Tiny puffballs

So, you think we have problems with a COVID vaccine here?  Try being in hell, er, Russia...

One in seven volunteers have complained of side effects including weakness and muscle pain after taking Russia’s highly touted coronavirus vaccine, Russia’s health minister said Tuesday.

Final clinical trials of the Sputnik V vaccine began in Moscow earlier this month amid questions over its long-term safety and effectiveness.

One in seven, ouch!  BTW, comrades, do you have to name EVERYTHING 'Sputnik'?

"Our Chipmunk, who art in Heaven..."

To finish this tour, let's do a little "seeing it from the other side."  First, here's the Moscow Times (again), telling a story on us:

‘Socialist Symbols Wanted’: U.S. Artist Wants Lenin Corpse in D.C.

And with the opposing viewpoint, the BBC:

As statues around the world get toppled and vandalised, one Ukrainian village has found a creative approach to its historical legacy.
The monument to Lenin in Zaliznychne, Odesa Region, has been altered to represent the village founders - ethnic Bulgarians who arrived in the 19th century.
Lenin is now dressed in traditional Bulgarian attire, holding pruning shears and a grape vine, with a bag of grapes at his feet.
Villagers argued that such a makeover would be easier and cheaper than demolition.

Put a lampshade on his head and a martini in one hand and, boom, instant Vasil Levski!  Tell me you couldn't do that to Robert E Lee statues...  here, watch!

Robert E Lee...

Foster Brooks!

  1. That bridge is beautiful. Great pics. :) Interesting about the vaccine. In all honesty I'll likely take my chances with the actual virus than the first run of the vaccine when it's released here.
