Good morning/evening (depending on if you are me or you) friends, and welcome to this week's show. We have 2 new debuts- one by an old favorite and another by a new-to-the M10 act. Let me start right off with our rolling Rolling Stone countdown of the greatest singers of all time in their opinions, and I will put the caveat this week that I left out three names I knew because in all fairness, I haven't heard any of their songs. They would be Usher (#97), Selena (89) and Amy Winehouse (83). While the ladies, sadly, have passed, as far as I know Usher is still breathing air, though his career has been healthier.
96- Chuck Berry. Hall of fame act, check. Influencer of many, check. Entertainer supreme, perhaps. Singer, 96 is good.
93- Stevie Nicks. I'm a bit surprised that this is all the higher she rated for RS. I might have waited till closer to the top.
92- Anita Baker. She doesn't join the first three I mentioned only because I've heard Giving You The Best That I've Got. Probably a good spot, though she shouldn't be ahead of Stevie.
87- Diana Ross. Seriously? RS really bamfoozled me with this one. At least top 20.
86- Michael Jackson.
They stunned me with Diana, they knocked me cold with this one. Frankly, on talent alone, he should be top 40, and I am flabbergasted that they didn't put him top 10.
85- Johnny Cash. Y'know, the more this list goes on, the more I know I'm going to have to re-rack all these guys correctly when I'm done running their picks. Top 15.
82- Steve Perry. The surprises keep coming, finding the Journey former frontman this far back. I'd have him up towards the front farther, if only a little.
80- Chris Cornell. The Soundgarden voice is iconic, yes, influential, yes, and deceased, yes. All count in RS's evaluation of a voice, apparently. Truly, though, with his range and power, I'm not hating this.
79- Emmylou Harris. They do like their token country crossovers. Not bad value for the spot.
And finally this week...
78- Janis Joplin. I'm out of ways to say they really surprised me where they put Pearl. Oh, wait, let's try gobsmacked. However, this is a good spot here too, I think.
Elvis: Sorry I'm late, boss. Traffic was murder.
WHAT traffic?
Man, you don't wanna know. Here, lemme get the first video. Uh, they didn't get to me on the list yet, did they?
No. If they had, I would have fainted dead away.
Whew. Anyway, our first song is new stuff from Silversun Pickups, at #10...

Nicely done, sir. Now for the song I wouldn't turn off, this week in 1981. I had a strong ten candidates, and prolly could have done another ten close but not quites. In fact, I can't decide on which song should be number three so...
Tied for third, The Outlaws and Ghost Riders In The Sky at 94, along with Ronny Milsap's Smoky Mountain Rain at 66...
Man, that song ain't nuthin' but a rehash of my Kentucky Rain, just a li'l farther south...
Doesn't make it bad, though! At the second spot, Juice Newton's Angel Of The Morning at #4.
And my number one can't turn off song this week...
...James Taylor and JD Souther and the #11 Her Town Too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What'll it be, video or chart?
I'll get the video this time. And for the first time on the M10 stage, here's Christian rapper NF not rappin' on the tune at #9....

Wow... heavy stuff.
No doubt. And here's the rest of the week's top ten...
8- Week #9 for Imagine Dragons and Follow You, down 2.
7- Darius Rucker's Fires Don't Start Themselves, up one.
6- Jelly Roll, up 4 with Need A Favor.
5- Up 2 for Caroline Rose and Everywhere I Go, I Bring The Rain.
4- the former #1 Death Wish by Jason Isbell, down 2.
3- Up one for Noah Kahan's Stick Season.
2- Up one for Gorillaz et al with New Gold, the current #3 alt chart.
And a second week on top for...
...Manchester Orchestra and The Way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's a wrap, see ya next time!
Oh what a post with bloody good artists and music

DeleteThose names near the 100 spot are indeed stunning. Must be some super duper singers at the top of the list. I was never a very big fan of Joplin. Her voice hurt my head. I did like her band Big Brother and the Holding Company. I thought that's where she did her best work.

Their whole chart is trying to be as "international" as they can, with a lot of acts I never heard of and a lot of, "What do you expect, from Rolling Stone?" choices.
