And we are at the END of our rolling Rolling Stone list- the top 6!
Elvis: An' next week, we see how low YOU put me....
Whining much? Want me to call your Mom?
Not really...
I have her on speed dial...
NO! I- I mean, let's not bother Mama...
Also this week, I have a "Song I wouldn't turn off " list that brought me a solid ten songs from 1975 this week. And we have an "Old Order Changeth" week on the M10, with one new debut. And... a new odd statistic as a result! But first...
ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....
Do you mind not pooping on my statistics?
Sorry, rough night...
I'm sure... anyway, while the lead singer of this band is no stranger to the M10, his band is. At #10, this is Brian Fallon and the Gaslight Anthem....
*******************************************************************
And now- the final 6 of the Rolling Stone 200 Best singers of all time...
6- Ray Charles. Much like Willie Nelson, love him, but not a singer of this caliber.
5- Mariah Carey. Seriously? Since my re-rack is now complete, I can tell you I put her 21st of the 21 ladies I knew and mentioned...
4- Billie Holiday. Not judging here, and not putting her on my list, because I really don't know her. From what I've heard about her, she's legendary.
3- Sam Cooke. All things considered, not a bad choice on their part.
2- Whitney Houston. Not a surprise on their part, and despite my dislike of her, I did have her higher than Mariah Carey. Not to mention their #1 choice....
1. Aretha Franklin. Again, not my cup of tea, again not surprising. Other than Chaka Khan (whose disagreement, since retracted, started this whole thing), I doubt a lot of people would argue here.
Next week, I re-rack the 65 acts on the RS list I mentioned, and give you the top ten or 20, I haven't decided.
Whitney Houston? I can't believe they had me behind Whitney Houston...
Cheer up, Bud. You DID beat all the Beatles...
Say, that's right! Wait'll you have them on again, I know just what'll say to 'em...
"I'm 17th, so I try harder.."?
Oh, hardy-har-har!
BEFORE WE GO ON- two more members of the band in heaven this week, as we lost Astrud Gilberto, who sang on The Girl From Ipanema; and Mark Volman, former Turtle and Flo of Flo and Eddie, who had the big M10 hit Keep It Warm (which may or may not have been responsible for my first grandchild!). Astrid was 83; Mark 78.
Anyway, about that stat thing- a few weeks back, Albert Hammond Jr hit #1 from the number seven spot the week before. Which made me curious...
Then why din't ya mention it before?
Well, because I have a better reason THIS week! So I did a quick look back at how far our M10 #1s have had to jump. With several songs hitting the top multiple times ( with most of them, strangely enough, hitting each time from the #2 position), we had 218 ascendencies to the top, and...
53% came from #2...
23.8 % from #3...
10.5% from #4...
8.25% from #5...
2.75% from #6...
...and three songs- including AHJ and 2017's Sit Next To Me by Foster The People all the way from #7, for 1.4%.
Um, Boss, that's only two songs there...
You're right, that is two songs. So this week, we are in 1975 in my Song I wouldn't turn off feature. This week, I had a sharp axe to divide my choices, and landed ten on my short list. Trimming that to 3, my top ones are...
At third, Ray Stevens and Misty at #26 on this week's Cashbox countdown...
At second, Chicago and Old Days at #6...
And this week's top song I wouldn't turn off...
...McCartney and Wings and Listen To What The Man Said, at #18 this week!
Just when ya think yer shed of the dern Beatles...
That brings us to this week's M10:
9- Lemon Twigs up 1 with Ghost Run Free...
8- Down 5 for Lauren Daigle and New...
7- Up 2 for The Japanese House and Sunshine Baby...
6- And up 2 for Saint Asonia and Devastate...
5- And down 3 for 100 gecs and Hollywood Baby...
4- And Holding for Beach House and Black Magic...
3- And up 2 for Geowulf and Slow Dance...
2- and it wouldn't be an "Old Order Changeth" week without the #1- Albert Hammond Jr and Old Man- dropping to 2...
And at #1- which makes this the SECOND time in a row the #1 song got there jumping from #7- and third time ever...
...Bethany Cosentino from Best Coast and It's Fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's a wrap! Enjoy your weekend!
I think what my daughters call old folks music is the best music but then they think I'm old just like my mirror...........lol
ReplyDeleteI saw someone tweet last night, "Its 2023 and I'm still listening to 80's music", and I thought, what a pup!
