M10 show week #77

Elvis:  What're we doing up so early?

For you, early- Misty and I got back from our morning walk half an hour ago!  And why so early, it's Vacation week, and I thought we'd just go ahead (since the pics we took couldn't quite carry a post) and get the M10 show in!

But I ain't had breakfast yet!

I have!  Misty's had her bone, too!  So run down to the commissary whilst I talk about the new debut this week.  Anyway, I have the opposite problem I had at the beginning of the year- too many good songs to pick from!  I'm unofficially doing a top 15 for now, but I won't bug you with all of them; the one that cracks the ten this week is up to #24 on iHeart's alt chart, #26 on Radiowavemonitor... and comes in at #9 here!  Once again, Noah Kahan...

****************************************************

As you know, we are in week #6 of this year's Song Of Summer '23 countdown, and I got around to figuring where every song that's made 30+ points on the Martin System ranks.  The rest of the way, I'll try to give you the range in which each M10 that crosses into that territory is, but not giving them a ranking until they are done.  (A short list so far that includes just 100 gecs and Hollywood Baby at #80.) Speaking of, these are the yearly winners so far of SOS:

2016- Tangerine, You'll Always Be Lonely, #2 overall.

2017- Foster The People, Sit Next To Me, #7.

2018- The Jayhawks, Backwards Women, #4.

2019- Agnes Obel, Riverside, #1.

2020- The Shacks, Smile Now Cry Later, #6.

2021- Counting Crows, Bobby And The Rat Kings, #8.

2022- Cannons, Bad Dream, #9.

(Munch munch) I'm back, what'd I miss?

Just telling everyone how this year's Song of the Summer is going...

Yeah, I see we have a new leader...

Um, I haven't got that far yet...

Sorry... (URP) excuse me...

Thank you, ladies and gentlemen, Elvis Presley there.  Next up, though- and hopefully not his breakfast- is this week's song I wouldn't turn off.  We journey to this week in 1972, where I collected a list of nine, and whittling it down...

3rd, at #32 on Cashbox this week, the Chi-Lites and Oh, Girl....

2nd, at #30, Dr Hook and Sylvia's Mother...

And my top song I wouldn't turn off, at #5...

...the Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose with Too Late To Turn Back Now!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, what's left?

Just the top ten, and I'll do it this week so you know what I want to do the rest of the summer...

Oh, boy, lemme git my notepad...

10- dropping 5 to #10, Albert Hammond Jr and Old Man- it sits in the #s 47 to 49 range right now...

8- Up one for the Guess Who and Headline...

7- also up one for Gaslight Anthem and Positive Charge, #41 on RWM's top alt chart...

6- Holding at #6 in week #8, Beach House and Black Magic, which is currently in the #59-61 range for all time summer song...

5- Up two for Lemon Twigs and Ghost Run Free...

4- 7 weeks on the chart for our new co-leader this year, Geowulf and Slow Dance.  Down 2 here, #45-46 range all time.

3- Saint Asonia up one and just outside the summer list with Devastate.

2- out of the top spot, but in a tie for this year's lead (and thus in that #45-46 range), Bethany Cosentino and It's Fine.

And our new #1...

....Bakar and Hell N Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that wraps our early M10!  See ya next time!
