M10 Show week #79

So, I hear yer thinkin' of addin' another feature around here...

Would you put a shirt on?  What is your ordeal?

Man, it's 86 degrees outside!

Are you currently digging a ditch?  Get your clothes on, as Ray Stevens used to say. Yep, it was a thought that Jo-Anne gave me quite by accident, and it'll come up a little later. Right now, we have but one new debut to the top ten- and it's a combo of M10 charters who combined on a tour this summer, and put together a song to celebrate it!  At #9, here is Beck- with Phoenix...

********************************************************

Well, that wuz fun!  So what's this new thing?

Well, I thought about how not all our audience is American, and not all our songs made their chart.  So I decided I'm going to work a little Australian and Canada into our show, and attach it to the song I wouldn't turn off!  This week, we are in 1970, and in Australia CCR is on top with their double A-side Up Around The Bend/ Run Through The Jungle.  In Canada, this week's Cashbox #5 is their #1- Melanie with the Edwin Hawkins Singers and Lay Down (Candles In The Rain).

So how's that got to do with yer list?

It doesn't, other than using the same year each week,  I would want to confuse you anymore than usual!

Well, Thanks ever so...

This week, I collected 9 hot 100 songs I wouldn't turn off, whittled it down to three, and what we're left with is...

Third is the song at #3 this week... it was a #1 in both Canada and Australia- the Carpenters and (They Long To Be) Close To You....

Second is the song at #9 this week- it was a lowly #59 peak in Down Under and #8 in the Great White North- the Jackson Five and The Love You Save...

And my top Song I wouldn't turn off this week- a former #1 on the way down at #21 here, and  also a #1 in Canada- but only a #7 in Australia... (King, you might want to turn your back...)

...The Beatles and their last #1... The Long And Winding Road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least it was the end of 'em....

Well, not when you consider Got To Get You Into My Life... Obla Di, Obla Da... the Medley... Free As A Bird...

Ain't never gonna be rid of 'em, am I?

Not as long as you're... well... let me rephrase...

Oh, just gimme the top ten this week!

So Chris is wantin' ta throw in all the other charts his songs make, so let me start out by sayin that that debut, Odyssey by Beck an' Phoenix is #21 on RadioWaveMonitor's "College" chart.

10- The Guess Who slippin' from 7 with Headline.

8- Bakar up 2 with Alive!

7- Also at #20 alt and 12 College, Noah Kahan slips one with Dial Drunk.

6- Cracking our all time summer list- the seventh so far this summer- in the 85-88 range, Ghost Run Free by the Lemon Twigs, droppin' 4.

5- Up a quick 4, M.A.G.S. with Destroyer.

4- Heading into the summer all-time 10-13 range while dropping but one spot, the #38 College song, Bethany Cosentino's It's Fine.

3- Up a pair this week, with chart stops at #43 alt, #95 "Big Rock", and 98 college- Gaslight Anthem and Positive Charge.

2- Up a pair, at #48 on Big Rock, and moving into the #46 spot on the summer list- Saint Asonia and Devastate.

And the Number one, for its third week, an' movin' into the #53 range of the summer all time list...

 ...Bakar an' Hell N Back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just going to add that, in case the Lemon Twigs had ascended to #1 this week, they would have been the seventh song to hit #1 for the first time in its seventh week.  If our new #2 does it, it would be the first to do it in week #8....

  1. Beck's tune is the perfect light and breezy summer fare. Thanks for including Canada in your post. Lay Down is one of my favourite songs of ALL time! ♥ The Long and Winding Road only made it to #7 in Australia? That's surprising!
