Actually, no.  I might toy with it this weekend...

Oh yes, the famous "Christmas with Bill Haley" show!  I don't think that one can be topped...

You know that, and I know that, but CNN likes to lead with the story and ignore the retraction.  Anyway, we have two debuts, and 1982 waiting in the wings!  So fire off that first video...

Yep, and I tried to find out more about the child- all I learned was she wrote the song while she was 6 months pregnant...  and she says it's her most personal song.  Anyway, let's look at this week in 1982.  Lionel Richie's Truly topped the American chart- it hit #1 in Canada as well, and 7 in Australia.  In Canada, it was Up Where We Belong with Jennifer Warnes (who I love) and Joe Cocker (not so much).  It was a #1 across the board.  In Australia, we had Musical Youth's Pass The Dutchie, which was a fave of mine as the snow began to melt away in the very early spring of '83.  Canada also had it at #1, while we peaked it at 10.  The big movers on CB this week were...

5- a three way tie with 8 notches up, in order of highest landing:

   John Cougar's Hand To Hold On To, landing at 33.  It was a peak of 19 here, but only 41 in Canada, and even worse at 97 in Australia'

   Patty Austin and James Ingram, Baby Come To Me, landing at 30.  It would only get 38 in Australia, but 3 in Canada and 1 here.

   The Clash, Rock The Casbah, stopping at 28.  A big difference of opinion on the American charts, where Billboard had it at 8 and Cashbox, mysteriously, at 13.  It did the best in Australia, peaking at 3, and Canada put it at 17.

3- a two way tie with 9 spots up:

  

    You Can't Hurry Love by Phil Collins, landing at 26.  It would climb to #1 in North America and 9 in Australia.

    Down Under, Men At Work.  It moved to 21 this week; it was an across the board #1.

2- Moving up 13 to 32, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (with a song that Blackberry Smoke would cover on the M10), You Got Lucky.  #20 here, 30 in Canada, 62 in Australia.

And the big mover, 15 spots to 37-

...The Little River band and The Other Guy.  Again the US charts split- CB at 8, BB at 11- while Australia had it peak at 7 and Canada at 30.

Okay, I guess we have the Elvis seal of approval on doing my favorite song on the top 40, this week in 1982.  And that would be the one at #6, Joe Jackson's Steppin' Out.  A #5 in North America, it got to #30 in Australia.
