M10 show week # 99

Well, we've made it to the 99th show- 100 will be the reasonably mapped out Elvis's Christmas Party- which may or may not involve me holding the actual countdown for the next day's clean up!  As a result, plan on the 100th anniversary party coming up on THURSDAY, with Friday being that possible clean-up post.  This week, another one of those strange feature years (1971), along with one new debut from someone I suspect you haven't heard from in a while!

Elvis:  I'm just glad I'm back on th' show, after movin' heaven an' earth to set up the party last week...

Well, dude, procrastination really doubles your workload...

Nah, I din't even look fer any magicians... was I s'posed to?

"Procrastination" is "putting it off till the last moment".  At that point, THEN you need prestidigitation...

Procrastination, Prestidigitation, preposterous, it's all long words with a "p" inna front....

Don't let your pachalics get into an uproar, just play the next song!

My which?  Nah, never mind.  This here girl hadda big worldwide hit back in '07 with Bubbly- #1 in Australia, #2 in Canada, an' #5 here.  This summer, she decided to do a country album, and this song from it comes in at #9 here- Colbie Caillat...

Like I said, our year is 1971, and this week 52 years ago (Uggh, never trying to figure THAT out again!) Sly and the Family Stone were on top on Cashbox with Family Affair...

Damn it, French, not THAT Family Affair!

Canada was discoing to Isaac Hayes's Theme From Shaft, and both would hit the top on each others' charts.  However, not only did Australia throw a fly in the ointment- they had Sly at a #46 peak and Shaft at #11- but they had at the top this week, the only one that topped all 3 charts at one point- Rod Stewart's Maggie May, which took the tour of the northern countries in October.

My songs I wouldn't turn off was miserably short this week- just three songs!  And it was a mixed bag chart wise- one hit the top on all three charts, and the other two had one country each NOT chart it!

First, I go with the song at #29 on CB this week- a song that was 6:57 on the full version, cut to 3:20 for the single- Yes with Your Move (the single title)/I've Seen All Good People ( the lp title).  It peaked on Billboard at 40, in Australia at 32- but was shut out in Canada.

Then, the song at #54 this week.  Billboard crapped it out here at #50, but hometown Canada put it at #12, while Australia shut it out- the Guess Who... and here they are live from the 1983 reunion, just to whet your appetite for next week's live show...

And the song that all three had at #1 at some point, sitting at #23 on CB in week #3....
