I'm in a sad mood tonight. I've had yet another fight with an atheist. In someone else's blog's comment section.
I know she reads mine, so I'd like to apologize for making a mess all over her blog. I feel it was provoked, by a silly foolish man with no greater wisdom than to scoff at the heavenly things. And when I see God scoffed at, I react like Jesus did in the Temple with the money-changers. However, I don't have the discipline Jesus had, and I tend to spill the holy water with the pigeon cages.
But I have a hard time with those who troll for blogs in which they can plant their tares and mess people up. I have a problem with those who cannot set their agenda of tearing apart all that is of God long enough to have a logical discussion about the subject- even though they are supposed to be the "free thinkers." And I have a problem with an antagonist who is such a lackwit that he thinks that a wonderful critique of the Sermon On The Mount involves bullet-pointing each of the Beatitudes, followed by a "yeah, right..."
Nonetheless, I replied humbly and rationally, after which I called his responses "4th-grade" and "infantile". So in addition to apologizing to the dear lady whose blog hosted Chris and his amazing knotted cord, I suppose I better apologize to the majority of 4th-graders out there. And possibly any babies out there who object to the term "infantile" being used on such a person.
To him, I have no apologies, other than instead of confusing him with intelligent responses, I should have just said, "You're a dork", and left it at that. That he would have had a shot at understanding as it keeps God out of the discussion.
In the background as I type, I am listening to Monday Night Football, where it is becoming rapidly apparent that the Miami Dolphins would much rather be in a titty bar with Richie Incognito spending some poor rookie's money than actually earning theirs. So far, the winless Tampa Bay squad has scored on a touchdown by an offensive lineman, a field goal, and a safety when that wonderfully focused offensive line let the RB get tackled in there own end zone. If Joe Philbin really wanted to survive bullygate, he's doing a bang-up job of showing it.
And if that isn't enough crap coming down, look what's happening outside...
That's right, it's snowing. And it might even seem pretty, especially when you think of the crap that came down on the Philippines. (PS Thank God for our boys of the USMC over there as we speak, trying to get food, water, and communications to these ravaged areas. You are the GREATEST!!!) But tonight, it's ...er, beauty... is dampened for me.
I understand what is up, my friend. I fear for you, having to sort through the poison that people like you-know-who try to inject into the situation. I hope someday you'll cut through all the voices- including mine, especially tonight- and just hear Him. That was and is my prayer for you.

I never understand virulent atheists. If they don't believe, why get their knickers in a knot over "them that do?" Doesn't make sense.
ReplyDeleteAs for football, I'm a Giants fan, the team that proves: the best way for a crappy team to win three games in a row is to play crappier teams.
And even that didn't work at the start of the season...
DeleteAl is a Giants fan...I have finally found someone other than my husband that roots for them!
DeleteBrrrrr, Gawsh I don't like winter. Our news channel is trying to convince us we will have some snow on Wednesday. They're wrong tho, silly weather reporters ;)
ReplyDeleteI didn't see the post or read the argument, buy my thoughts with the guy who feels it necessary to not look up and thank God for all that he has :)
Where YOU are? Geez, this snow thing is getting outta hand!
DeleteFirst- I'm very jealous of your snow!! Next- I can understand how you feel about getting upset with someone like this brainless guy you tried to communicate with. I try very hard not to get upset and just discuss intelligently, but that can be difficult when the other person lacks intelligence. What always gets me is that so many "atheists" (or what have you) spend so much time arguing against God. I mean, if they don't believe in Him, why are they spending so much time on Him? Makes ya wonder!
ReplyDeleteProblem is, they aren't brainless except in this one area. Okay, usually in politics, too. But I definitely think there's more to it, and I've told more than one of them they are being played and don't even know it.
DeleteWith a title like that I had to click over first thing.
ReplyDeleteI understand what you are saying ( until the sports part when my eyes just glazed over, it like a foreign language to me:)) and I'm so sorry about the comments unpleasantness.
I thank you for your prayer.
We've got a light dusting here in Indy, I hope it doesn't melt before the kids get to see it, my eight year old was super excited that it might snow.
First, the comments weren't from you. Second, I've fought the battle before and the thing that makes me sad is that they'll never get how hard I try to help them- or figure out what it is I'm helping them from. If you want to see the TRUE definition of "pouring hot coals on your enemy", tell an atheist you'll pray for them.

Yeah, I can figure that much out from my traffic feed.

Delete*Sigh*
Some people do some studying, come to a conclusion prematurely (before enough contrary evidence has been objectively examined), and after they have invested a great deal of time and thought and words into their faulty (because it's not fully enough developed) paradigms about religion and politics, it becomes nearly impossible to shake them from their accepted "truths".
That's a sword that cuts both ways, against atheists, liberals, and even "Christians" and "conservatives".
I have encountered them all. At some point, I just stop trying to teach them anything because they are adamant that they already have all the truth they need. For them, the case is closed and the judge has spoken. When I realize I've encountered that sort of mind-set, I just don't cast any more pearls before them.
I may even go so far as to refrain from engaging them anymore in public disagreements and allow them to get the last word, even though I have plenty enough unrevealed ammunition yet to easily win the dispute. You know what I mean?

Yup, that's why I deleted the dude's last comment without looking at it- which if I'd been smart, I'd have done from the start. Jesus will someday kick me in the tush for all the pearls I wasted on swine.
DeleteI never understood why some atheists get their knickers in a knot over those who believe. I think you're right-I think they're just looking for a fight.
ReplyDeleteThey are being led to a fight- just like they're being led to a slaughter.
DeleteCW-
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure you can help them.
I've often thought atheists want to covert Christians into atheists because they are NOT secure in their belief....otherwise that saying "there are no athiests in foxholes" would not exist.
In any event, in a battle of wits, the unarmed mind only has insult and profanity at its disposal.
Not worth letting an idjit get to you.

Chris:
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's rough TRYING to minister to an atheist...and that's why I've stopped bothering.
They're not worth MY trouble as oong as they stay on THEIR side of the religious "fence".
.
After all this time, I firmly believe that there ARE those for whom a redeeming spirit and humble heart will NEVER grace their presence.
You have some great commenters who have spoken up as well with very good thoughts and beliefs.
Hang in there, and never let the turkeys get you down.
(Thanksgiving's coming anyway..YUM!L)
Stay safe up there.
