M10 show week #39

Welcome to the first week of year 8 of the M10!  Just for some fun a little later, we'll look at the #1s at the year 8 #1s of Cashbox's and Billboard's charts- and their first ones, as well!  Also, this week, the Songs of Summer 2022!  Billboard has already announced that Harry Styles and As It Was is their SOS22; will he do it again here?

Elvis:  Geez, that cat is as bad as the durn Beatles!

You don't know the half of it- but you will, right after we play the first of 2 new songs in the M10!  The first, at #10, comes off a soundtrack- not a movie, but the campaign for the new Dungeons and Dragons game!  It has a couple of our M10 stars on it- might hear another somewhere down the line- and this week, one of them comes onto our chart!  From the SPELLJAMS soundtrack, here's Lucius...

Okay, so what're ya gonna tell us about Harry that we din't know now?

Just this- he has returned, after 3 weeks and two different #1s, to the top slot on Billboard's Hot 100 with As It Was- his 12th week there, making it not only the biggest song of the summer- but of the DECADE so far!

That's burnt, man!

Not only that, but he is one week at either #1 or #2 away from having the most weeks at those two positions in history!

Holy cow!  That's more accomplishments than a man should have!  'Ceptin' if it's me...

So next, let's get off The Harry Show and  onto a little more trivia.  So this week, with our NEW number one yet to be revealed, let me take you back on a trip in time.  Our first M10 #1, last week in 2015, we dug back to 1986 for Status Quo's British #2 ( and #1 in 5 other countries), In The Army Now.  On Billboard, which trotted out its official Hot 100 in August of 1958, the first #1 was Ricky Nelson's Poor Little Fool; Cashbox started much farther back, in the last week of October, 1944- and it started out with Dinah Shore (and others) with I'll Walk Alone.

Now as for that week #1 of their eighth years, Billboard was topped in 1965 by Sonny and Cher's I Got You Babe.  Cashbox, in 1951, had at the top a song called (It's No) Sin, with Eddie Howard and the Four Aces both charting. (Because, Cashbox used to mash all current versions together under one entry.  According to Billboard, they would have agreed with the Dinah Shore entry- by their unofficial archives- but the Eddie Howard version of Sin would hit their "Best sellers in stores" #1 later, with Tony Bennett at the top with Cold Cold Heart- which CB peaked at #2- instead.)

Ah liked Dinah Shore.  She shore wuz pretty, haw!

Hey, comedian,  Play the other debut!

Right-o!  Comin' in at #8, this song's off a... whut's a box set?

Gimme the mike!  From a box set just out containing everything you wanted to hear or know about them, but were afraid to ask for, here's never-before-released tunage from Blondie...

And now, the top ten Songs Of Summer '22!

10- Built To Spill, Spiderweb, 30 pts.  In addition to being still on this week's chart, it is one of 3 BTS hits on the list, so guess we call this the Built To Spill summer!

9- Rubblebucket, Morning In The Sun, 35 pts. Last week's #1 making that late charge to hit this list.

8- Camera Obscura, Making Money, 43. One of a record breaking  ELEVEN different #1s this summer! It beat last years record by one.. no other year had more than 9.

7- Absofacto, Dissolve, 49. Just think, a story about another band led to three summer hits- this one the second biggest.

6- Sunflower Bean, In Flight, 53.  This was definitely my favorite of the summer- but it started the period already near the top.  24th on the all time summer list.

5- Built To Spill, Fool's Gold, 56.  The second #1 for these guys this summer, it hits 17th all time summer.

4- Built To Spill, Understood, 57.  And here's the first, in a time for 15th summer all-time.

2 (tie)- Harry Styles, As It Was, 59. No double dipping here, I'm afraid.  The pair at our #2 are tied for 9th Summer all-time.  Probably should have just abbreviated this to S-A-T...

Good thinkin', Sherlock...

You hush!

2(tie)- Jayhawks, Save It For A Rainy Day, 59.  Jayhawks are always strong in the summer.  Anyway, Buddy, do the M10, and we'll save 1st for the end.

Yepper, here we go...

9- Built To Spill, Spiderweb, down 2...

7- Wilco, Hearts Hard To Find, up one...

6- BTS again with Fool's Gold, down 3...

5- Tchotchke an' You'll Remember me, up 5 bigguns...

4- Last week's top dog, Morning In The Sun...

3- Up 2 for Brooke Annibale an' Be Around...

2- also up 2, Geowulf an' Whirlwind...

And at the- I won't say, 'tippy top', I promise (haw!)- #1 spot...
