M10 show week #44

So this week, we have a special battle request for you- like last week, we'll take the acts' Spotify top ten streamed and see how they did on the charts!  This week:

Rolling Stones Vs. Aerosmith - YouTube

Aerosmith vs the Rolling Stones!  Woudja believe they did a Celebrity Deathmatch between Steven Tyler and Mick Jagger? (Mick won, but those cartoons certainly didn't age too well...)

Elvis:  What the blazes is a "Celeberty Deathmatch?"

It was a claymation where they'd take two famou... oh, don't worry about it.

Did they ever have me on one?

Apparently so... you fought Jerry Garcia from the Grateful Dead...

Did I win, at least?

Not sure... he tackled you and you both went through the ropes and that's when the video stopped.  At least it was funnier than the other one.  They had you "Kung Fu Fighting"...

Bet I wuz fast as lightning...

Okay, moving right along. this came close to being one of those "The Old Order- Shattered!" M10 weeks, and we do have a couple of debuts.  First off at #10, and finally a single I liked from their new lp, my special faves, Alvvays...

*************************************************************

Okay, so let's get the match started!  I got 5 bucks on Aerosmith...

You made a bet?

Sure! Draft Kings wuz givin' plus 235!

You realize that's because the Stones had 8 #1s to Aerosmith's one...

Wait, I counted NINE!

That's because you counted from the Billboard Rock chart, not the hot 100 as we did...

UH-oh....

10- Aerosmith had Hole In My Soul, which had a #51 peak, so 0 points.  For the Stones, You Can't Always Get What You Want, which stopped at 42, so another bagel.

Oh, this is startin' out with promise...

9- Aerosmith had Rag Doll, a #17 so 1 point- and I sure woulda bet that one was higher... The Stones had my personal favorite, the #1 Miss You, so 10-1 for them.

Mebbe we shoulda done yer personal favorites instead...

Hmm... that's a thought if we don't get a better match up (C'mon with the crickets, you lot!  Give me a couple of acts to do again next week!)... any way:

8- Aerosmith, Amazing, a #24 so they get their second point; the Stones, Wild Horses, at #28 makes the score 11-2.

7- Dude Looks Like A Lady for Aerosmith, a #14 (again, I would have thought higher) so 1 point; the Stones, Angie, a #1 which makes it 21-3.

6- Aerosmith, Cryin' at #12- another single point.  Stones, Beast Of Burden, at #8 for 3 points.  So at the halfway break, it's the Stones 24-4...

This here's gettin' ugly... let's cut to a video!

Good idea.  The debut at #9 you may have seen on NFL ads for the Tampa/Kansas City matchup... a fact that apparently the original artist, Neil Young, is sore about.  And this is why I don't listen to old, bitter performers who can't look at something like that ad and say, hey, that's cool- which it was.  At any rate, for his first solo trip into the 10, here's Beck...

******************************************************************

So ol' Neil didn't like that?

Just that he let it be used for an NFL ad.  Maybe if it had been an ad for the Leafs and Ottawa and had Matt Murray and DeBrincat...

I don' get it...

Neil's from Canada, so hockey... oh, never mind.  Anyhow, let's get the next songs up.

5- Sweet Emotion for Aerosmith, a #36 so 1 point; Stones had Sympathy For The Devil, and album cut that gets them zippo and it's 24-5.

4- Aerosmith's Crazy, 17 for another single.  The Stones, Gimme Shelter, another cut here in the US, and we are at 24-6.

3- Aerosmith's Walk This Way, a #10 which is another single.  Stones, (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction, a #1 that makes it 34-7.

Aerosmith should do a remake- I can't get no points, haw!

Um, last week's scoreboard...

Yeah, but I still got both a' these'ns beat!

2- I Don't Want To Miss A Thing for Aerosmith- their sole #1, lifting them to 17; the Stones, Start Me Up, another top dog, so 44-17...

An' now, I gets to do the rest of the M10 fer the week...

And maybe duck projectiles thrown at you from Aerosmith fans...

Hmm... hadn't considered that!  Anyway...

8- We The Kingdom, down a notch with Mine...

7- Nine weeks later, Dent May falls from #3 with Crying Laughing...

6- Built To Spill, up 2 with Comes A Day- which, we found out after the fact, is the second longest M10 song of all time...

5- Down 3 for Lucius an' Love Is The Disaster...

4- Zach Williams an' Heat Of God, up 6...

3- Last week's #1, Mr Sightseer by Blondie...

2- An' back up 2 in week #8, Wilco an' Hearts Hard To Find...

An' the new #1- an' 6th-longest song in M10 history...

...Broken Bells with Love On The Run!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice work, King!  And those top streamed songs for our contestants....

Aerosmith- not surprisingly, Dream On, a #6 which finishes them at  22 points...

Rolling Stones- A surprise for me- Paint It Black, a #1 for a final score of 54-22!

Wow, they got gobsmacked worse'n me!

Just for fun, I looked at the Aerosmith entries on the Rock chart, they would have gained 31 points...but, they also would have lost 3 on I Don't Want To Miss A Thing, so that would be 50, a lot closer but still a loss...

Crap.  Hey, can ya lend me a five?

  2. That's cute, with the Claymation showdown. ☺ Not surprised to see The Stones win out, but it seemed like a fun idea. How about a teenybopper battle between The Monkees and The Partridge Family? I enjoyed Alvvys' tune and Beck did a credible cover of Neil's song. I think Neil is against using his music for any commercials, but appreciated your hockey joke.

    1. Funny you bring up the Monkees, because we used their list for some stoiut-fueled entertainment this weekend! Monkees and Partridges it is!
