And it's also the 8th anniversary edition of the M10! That's right, as amazing as it seems to me, 8 years ago this week I started keeping my top ten. But it is also the second to last week of the Songs of Summer '23, and that's almost as amazing- where did it go?
Man, I think it melted away!
Again, where is your shirt?
Are you kiddin'? The heat index is supposed to get to one hunnert an' somethin'!
Well, it's only 78 now, and besides, we're in the AC!
But the girls like mah shirt off...
But I have to work with you! Anyway, this week the M10 has two debuts, and the Song I Wouldn't Turn Off has six contestants! So let's start out by going back to this week in 1966...
In Canada, The chart was making a very interesting change- outgoing were the Loving Spoonful and Summer In The City(Just dropping to #2 this week here), incoming were the Happenings and See You In September (#4). In Australia, the top was a four-song EP by the Easybeats called Easyfire and containing I'll Make You Happy/Too Much. Neither the EP or the songs on it were released outside Australia, apparently. And on Cashbox here, I found six songs I wouldn't turn off, whittled the list to three, and...
Third is Billy Stewart and Summertime, 9 on CB this week (though it peaked at 10 on Billboard), while making #13 in Canada and #40 in Australia...
Second is Los Bravos and Black Is Black, #75 on this week's CB chart, while topping off at #1 in Canada and 3 in Australia...
And the top song I wouldn't turn off...
...the Beach Boys and Wouldn't It Be Nice, moving into the top ten this week here, while peaking at 4 up north and 2 down south!
Our first M10 debut this week is an older one that I heard for the first time a few weeks back. At #10, with a Christian chart #1 from 2006, here's Casting Crowns...

So is the Songs of Summer done, or is it ain't?
We have one week to go, but the top three spots are locked up. There is one current active song on the list for this year, and two more will pass the thirty-point threshold and make the list next week. So when we finish, there will be 11 songs making the list this year, and the total for seven years will be 92 songs.
I though ya said eight years!
And I also said this was the anniversary, so that means one year didn't count because it was only two weeks worth!
Oh, yeah...
So how about you intro the next tune and we'll move on?
Sure... here's a band ya ain't heard much from in a while... never on the M10... but this week, their new one comes in all'a way up at #4! This is Smash Mouth...
*********************************************************
Okay, so let's wrap this up with the rest of the M10...
9-MAGS drops from #4 with Destroyer, the only current song on the years SOS list....
8-Jason Aldean's Try That In A Small Town, down 3.
7- Mammoth WVH with I'm All Right, up 2...
6- The Guess Who and Across The Line, up one...
5- Cafune and Demise, up one...
3- Trading places, Bethany Cosentino's Easy....
2- ...and Mikaela Davis's Far From You....
Leaving at the top spot for a second week...
...Talk and A Little Bit Happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Next week, all sorts of SOS finale stuff! See You Then!
I don't find shirtless men attractive just saying.
