Look, there's only 3 Beatles' songs on the whole top 100, and two of 'em weren't even big hits, and the other is on it's way out of the chart!
Well... you aren't greenin' me, are ya?
Scout's honor!
Wait, wuz you EVER a scout?
I was IN a Scout... a International Scout...
Of course, it was blue and white...
Okay, okay, let's do it...
So, as you may have guessed, this week's target year is 1964, and the charts of the US, Canada, and Australia are unusually lined up- except for my favorite song of the week...
Go figger...
And we have two new debuts on the 10 this week! And maybe more next week- for the first time so far, the next five (which I never post) are all brand new! That said, at #10 is another of those "alphabet game" songs that have been coming in the last few weeks- and this one took the longest to make top 10, it floated in the 'bottom five' ever since the first week! (That would be the last week of August, BTW...) At any rate... here from 2016 is Aaron Shust and Ever Be...
Sure is. Now this week in 1964, both the US and Canada Had Roy Orbison's Oh Pretty Woman at the top; it would be following in Australia the next week. Down Under had one more week of Manfred Mann's Doo Wah Diddy Diddy, Which had topped Canada two weeks ago, and would top here the next week. As for the big movers this week, only doing four so I can avoid the three way tie with a move of six, and go right into the three way tie at 10 spots...
4- (Ties broken by higher position) Cousin of Mine, Sam Cooke. I had never heard it before, and small wonder- it was originally the b-side of a song that bombed. It, however, finished at 31 here, 29 in Canada, 28 in Australia. Moving 10 to 35 this week...
3- Come A Little Bit Closer, Jay and the Americans. As Laurie can tell you, this AIN'T on my favorites list, but nevertheless it hit 3 here, 1 in Canada, and 4 in Australia. Up 10 to 28 this week.
2- Ride The Wild Surf, Jan and Dean. I wasn't real sure about this one either, but all Jan and Dean tunes sound essentially the same. 16 here, 20 in Canada, 24 in Australia. Up 10 to 25 this week.
And the big mover, at 14 spots...
...the Honeycombs and Have I The Right, a song that I used to think, from the chorus, was called "Come Right Back". Eventually topping the charts in Canada and Australia, it got to 5 here. Moved 14 to... to...
Messed up yer numbers, did ya?
Not originally, but when I put them 'in order', I did. Move Ride The Wild Surf to #4 with a 9 notch move to 26, and have the Honeycombs move that 14 to 25.
Hell gettin' old, ain't it?
Sure has been today, buddy! How about you play that other debut?
Yeah, I think I c'n hit a button! At #9, our little version of Sam Cooke, Leon Bridges with That's What I Love...
Well, I'm half afraid to type it since she's such a mind reader, but I'm about ready to take Misty Bug for a walk, so how about you hit the rest of the ten while I try to be 'smooth' and get ready...
Yeah, good luck with that!
8- Geowulf up a pair with Nightmare...
7- down 2 more for Beabadoobee and Beaches....
6- An' holdin' for the Go Betweens and Streets of Your Town, the 2nd alphabet song...
5- Down 2 fer Beach House an' Somewhere Tonight...
4- Alphabet song #3, the Honeycutters an' Jukebox, up 4...
3- Alphabet song #4, last week's #1, Emblem3 an' Chloe...
2- An' holdin' fer illiumati hotties an' Sleepin' In...
An' at the top... here, on Radiowavemonitor's rock and alt charts, the Billboard Alt airplay and Mainstream Rock charts, Mediabase's Active Rock and Alternative charts, same two charts on I ❤ radio, and in Austria, the Czech Republic, Germany, Latvia, Luxembourg, Portugal, Switzerland, the UK Rock chart (where their next single is #2), an' probaby the Timbuktu top 40 with Mustafa Kasem...
...Linkin Park and The Emptiness Machine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BTW, that second single sits at #11 on the bottom five, so get ready for it to chart here on the M10 VERY soon....
Oh, crap, it is hell getting old! My favorite from this week in '64 sits at #12 this week... J Frank Wilson and the Cavaliers and Last Kiss, an oft-covered #1 here, #2 in Canada... 76 in Australia. We're out!
