Muslim terrorists and Black mothers

Usually as I dig around for Martin World News, I step away from the serious, tell myself there's enough bad news, we're here to have fun.

Today, two very different- and very similar- stories derailed my plans.

First, from News AU (Aussie news):

A FOUR-year-old boy trapped in Kenya's besieged shopping mall confronted a gunman, calling him a "very bad man".

The Daily Mail in the UK reports the boy was protecting his mother, Amber, who had been shot in the leg during the opening minutes of the shopping mall massacre at the weekend. His six-year-old sister, Amelie, was cowering nearby.
The terrorist is said to have been so impressed by the boy's bravery, he gave him a Mars bar.
The gunman then reportedly said: "Please forgive me, we are not monsters".

Story #2 from the BBC:

Four Chicago men have been charged over a shooting with a military-grade weapon that wounded 13 people at a city park.

Tabari Young, 22, and Bryon Champ, 21, are accused of attempted murder and aggravated battery over last week's attack at a basketball court.

Police say that Brad Jett, 22, acted as lookout, while Kewane Gatewood, 20, supplied the gun.

Among those injured in last Thursday night's gunfire was three-year-old Deonta Howard, who is recovering from surgery after a bullet hit him in the ear and exited through his cheek.

Police say Young, who was arrested on Tuesday, was the primary gunman, using an assault-style weapon with a high-capacity ammunition magazine.

Champ, who was arrested on Monday, also opened fire, said Chicago Police Supt Garry McCarthy.

Young has been arrested a number of times, while Champ is a known gang member, according to the authorities.

Young's mother told the Chicago Tribune newspaper (the quote's on page 2) that her son was "transient", but "a good boy".

2.rationalization - (psychiatry) a defense mechanism by which your true motivation is concealed by explaining your actions and feelings in a way that is not threatening

Let me 'splain something to you, Mr. Allah-fearing, non-monstrous Muslim terrorist-  YOU ARE A MONSTER.  There isn't enough sugar-coating, there aren't enough Mars Bars in the world to cover over what you are.   You just shot that child's mother, a woman who had as much to do with whatever your cause is as the moons of Neptune have to do with global warming.  You can't cover it up by claiming "service to your god."  If that is what you think then your god is a butcher.  What will you do one day, when your god raises up a new Mohammed and calls him to kill all of you?

Let me 'splain something to you, Tabari Young's mother.  Your son is not a good boy, and probably hasn't been for a long time.  But how would you know?  You gave him up to the streets to raise, and lived on the lie that he was still a 4-year old ragamuffin playing in the dirt of the projects.  What can I do?  you tell yourself at night when you don't know and don't want to know where he is.  I'll spell it out for you.  Your son and his friends are stone cold murdering psychopaths.  He doesn't give a damn about that child's life, about his life, about your life.  If you had tried to do right by your son, maybe he wouldn't have run with the gangs.  Maybe you'd have supported him on a way out of the projects.  The fact that you say, "He's a good boy" rather than, "I'm sorry I failed with him," or, "I tried my best with him," tells me that just like he hasn't been a good boy in some time, YOU haven't had your eyes open in some time.  I have an idea.  Open your eyes, take a look at the little boy up there.  That "good little boy" will never be the same, because your "good boy" wanted to kill people he barely knew and didn't give a damn that that little boy was in the way.  Then tell me you still want to defend the MONSTER that you helped build.

I'm not a monster.  He's not a monster.  I have an idea, let's make a new definition of monster.  How about, a monster is anyone who wants to tear things down in order to "change the world", without giving a damn about the suffering that "new world" would bring.  I think that definition captures you, Mr. Muslim Terrorist.  And you, Tabari Young et al.  And you, Allah.  And you, Tabari Young's mother.

Oh, sorry, I'm supposed to be forgiving.  You're all good boys.

And on Monday we saw...

Today's walk started out with a strong whiff of skunk as we went through gap#2 in the fence row into the soccer fields.  Just seconds later, Scrappy turns around and goes the other way, and I said, "You're going the wrong way."  Little did we know that not ten feet away, a doe napped in the fence row- until I scared her (and she us), and anyone watching out their apartment's back window probably got a good show.  Just then, far ahead, I saw this...

Without a doubt, the biggest ground hog I ever saw- about the size of a badger!  This dude was 425 feet away from us!

Moments later, Scrappy found that SOMEBODY had had a meadowlark for a midnight snack in the soccer goal...

The woods was quiet and peaceful, and even a squirrel stopped to pose...

This little nut's timing pretty much sucks...

Here we are at the ravine, listening to falling acorns and hickory nuts....  Scrappy, ready to go?

BOWWW-ROOOOOOO!!!!!

Then we honest-to-God ran into a field full of people sweeping the field with nets!  An entymology class, I was told.  I tried passing Scrappy off as "a big, four-legged bug,"  But had one girl call him "a love bug."  I answered, "He is that..."

And there they go!  I guess we "bugged" them... ba-dum-DUM!

This was truly a picture perfect afternoon...

Scrappy adds a squished snake to his "dead reptile" collection...

Nature's still-life of fireworks.

Johnny Appleseed Saturday

Okay, Bob, here's those pictures you wanted.  Now get over there and vote on Autumn Madness, for Pete's sake!

Forecasters said possible rain in the morning.  Guess again, guys, weather was perfect.

On the march to Appleseed.  Probably not entering the beauty contest.

Hey, look!  The new footbridge on the south end is getting a guardrail!

9:39 AM- Lafayette, we are here!

Opens at 10AM?  Yeah, right.

Magician laughing at Tom for still counting 1-2-3 even though he knew the magician had already slipped the ropes.

Getting some treats for Scrappy- yes, maple candy.  You shoulda seen him go nuts!

And now, the highlight of the day...

BUFFALO BURGERS!!!!!

The annual visit to Johnny's grave

Meet up with friend Lorraine, and hubby Rex and daughter Abigail... now, where'd Lorraine go?

Oh, there she is... musta forgot to shave today.

Robert E. Lee discussing southern strategy.

Abigail demonstrating why you never say, "I can't believe you just did that" to a man who STILL has water in his bottle.

Ah, there's Lorraine!  A razor really works wonders...

While everyone watched the show, I watched the bug climb up this lady's back.

Then it got WINDY...

The battle of the bands.. two fife-n-drums and the Ft Wayne Scottishes.

And the first thing I did- raiding the antiques for new beer memorabilia!

And some pics Lorraine took... me 'n' Rex...

Me and 7/8ths of Abigail

Close up

My part in the water fight Lorraine started

And finally today, the latest update on the Great Shoaf Park connector...

At this end, the "idiot fence" is down, and the bridge across the canal is almost done!

Just needs planked.

In sad news, though, a shovel was hit and killed trying to cross Washington Center Road...

Looks like they are working the piles to the other-side bridge from the Shoaf side first...
