Muslim terrorists and Black mothers

Usually as I dig around for Martin World News, I step away from the serious, tell myself there's enough bad news, we're here to have fun.

Today, two very different- and very similar- stories derailed my plans.

First, from News AU (Aussie news):

A FOUR-year-old boy trapped in Kenya's besieged shopping mall confronted a gunman, calling him a "very bad man".

The Daily Mail in the UK reports the boy was protecting his mother, Amber, who had been shot in the leg during the opening minutes of the shopping mall massacre at the weekend. His six-year-old sister, Amelie, was cowering nearby.
The terrorist is said to have been so impressed by the boy's bravery, he gave him a Mars bar.
The gunman then reportedly said: "Please forgive me, we are not monsters".

Story #2 from the BBC:

Four Chicago men have been charged over a shooting with a military-grade weapon that wounded 13 people at a city park.

Tabari Young, 22, and Bryon Champ, 21, are accused of attempted murder and aggravated battery over last week's attack at a basketball court.

Police say that Brad Jett, 22, acted as lookout, while Kewane Gatewood, 20, supplied the gun.

Among those injured in last Thursday night's gunfire was three-year-old Deonta Howard, who is recovering from surgery after a bullet hit him in the ear and exited through his cheek.

Police say Young, who was arrested on Tuesday, was the primary gunman, using an assault-style weapon with a high-capacity ammunition magazine.

Champ, who was arrested on Monday, also opened fire, said Chicago Police Supt Garry McCarthy.

Young has been arrested a number of times, while Champ is a known gang member, according to the authorities.

Young's mother told the Chicago Tribune newspaper (the quote's on page 2) that her son was "transient", but "a good boy".

2.rationalization - (psychiatry) a defense mechanism by which your true motivation is concealed by explaining your actions and feelings in a way that is not threatening

Let me 'splain something to you, Mr. Allah-fearing, non-monstrous Muslim terrorist-  YOU ARE A MONSTER.  There isn't enough sugar-coating, there aren't enough Mars Bars in the world to cover over what you are.   You just shot that child's mother, a woman who had as much to do with whatever your cause is as the moons of Neptune have to do with global warming.  You can't cover it up by claiming "service to your god."  If that is what you think then your god is a butcher.  What will you do one day, when your god raises up a new Mohammed and calls him to kill all of you?

Let me 'splain something to you, Tabari Young's mother.  Your son is not a good boy, and probably hasn't been for a long time.  But how would you know?  You gave him up to the streets to raise, and lived on the lie that he was still a 4-year old ragamuffin playing in the dirt of the projects.  What can I do?  you tell yourself at night when you don't know and don't want to know where he is.  I'll spell it out for you.  Your son and his friends are stone cold murdering psychopaths.  He doesn't give a damn about that child's life, about his life, about your life.  If you had tried to do right by your son, maybe he wouldn't have run with the gangs.  Maybe you'd have supported him on a way out of the projects.  The fact that you say, "He's a good boy" rather than, "I'm sorry I failed with him," or, "I tried my best with him," tells me that just like he hasn't been a good boy in some time, YOU haven't had your eyes open in some time.  I have an idea.  Open your eyes, take a look at the little boy up there.  That "good little boy" will never be the same, because your "good boy" wanted to kill people he barely knew and didn't give a damn that that little boy was in the way.  Then tell me you still want to defend the MONSTER that you helped build.

I'm not a monster.  He's not a monster.  I have an idea, let's make a new definition of monster.  How about, a monster is anyone who wants to tear things down in order to "change the world", without giving a damn about the suffering that "new world" would bring.  I think that definition captures you, Mr. Muslim Terrorist.  And you, Tabari Young et al.  And you, Allah.  And you, Tabari Young's mother.

Oh, sorry, I'm supposed to be forgiving.  You're all good boys.

  1. And here in lays the problem with the world. People are afraid to face the truth. It's something I've struggled with personally for a very long time. I can also speak from experience that once you finally own up to the truth and see your actions for what they ARE instead of what the world expects to see things get a whooooooooooole lot easier. Acceptance is much better for the soul than rationalization. Forgiveness from God trumps acceptance any day, but secularly speaking... Acceptance is the way to go.

  2. So well said. Couldn't agree more. Things like this make me ill. And angry.

  3. Well said.

I have a certain empathy for the mother whose son turns out to be a terrorist; a murderous monster who goes on a killing spree and is eventually brought down. The mother didn't want this for her son, but this is what happened. She still loves him, she can't really bring herself to criticize him. She can't turn the clock back and she can't fix him so he's right, and so she grieves.

The religious zealot who kills the innocent, who is a terrorist has fallen victim to the evil one. Practically speaking, unless he can be persuaded to change his religious beliefs he's doomed, because again in terms of practicality there is only one thing to do when he attacks: Shoot him. Get rid of him and his support group.

  4. BRAVO! Man, BRAVO!

I couldn't have possibly said it better or improved on your post in any way whatsoever. That whole "he's a good boy" bullshit was run into the ground many decades ago, and most of us are just damned sick and tired of hearing it!

Prison for life (no chance of parole) for all the "good boys" out there. That's what I say. Others, I know, would say, "Make it lethal injection instead of prison for life".

    1. Unfortunately, if you've watched 12 Monkeys, you know that's what makes little terrorists.
