So because I missed doing last week's post with being sick, I have 2 weeks worth of top tens and 4 new debuts for you to check out. I'm gonna cut the features down to the "what was #1 in 1965" and keep away from doing any bits...
Elvis: So what'm I doin' here, anyhow?
I wonder that every week! First off, let's take a listen to the song that debuted at #7 last week- and rises to #4 this week! She was on with the Cactus Blossoms a while back, and this is her first solo on the M10- Jenny Lewis...
That's some hot stuff there! What else ya got?
Well, I have visual confirmation that we still haven't released the top of the 2023 chart yet, what with you doing the show 2 weeks ago and me being sick last week. So next week, I promise, the finale of the top songs of 2023! But now, we have an old friend at #10 on this week's chart- new stuff from Dent May at #10...
Man, that cat's crazy!
Unfortunately, I've aged past the point of being able to pass for him, like I did that long ago Halloween...

So what were the #1s around and about on this week in target year 1965? In Australia, it was the Beatles with I Feel Fine/She's A Woman....
Of course it was...
Nowadays, that double-a is less of a redundancy and more of a necessity... anyway, in Canada, it was Petula Clark's Downtown (the Beatles' tune having hit in December there). Petula would hit next week in Australia. Here in the USA, those two songs occupied the top spot the first 5 weeks of the year, with Petula holding forth this week.
Not a lotta variation...
No, there isn't in this year-range, everyone's on the same playlist. Speaking of playlists, our next debut is this week's #7. Once again, here's Buck Meek...
Okay, so let's see if I can get this mess sorted for yas. Starting with last week, we had songs at the end of their runs at the bottom 3 spots: boygenius and Cool About It at 10, Built To Spill with 1999's Carry The Zero at 9, and Juliana Hatfield's cover of Sweet Is The Night at 8. Of course, Jenny Lewis debuted at 7; Levitation Room was 6 with Heaven, and drops to 8 this week; #5 both weeks is TCH's cover of Pretty Lady; Ms Hatfield struck again with Showdown dropping from 1 to 4 last week, and to 9 this week; holding both weeks at 3 was Real Estate with Water Underground, which now becomes a member of the 16th place all-time club... and how's about, before we get the top 2, we do that last debut? At #6 this week, a second trip into the 10 for Amira Elfeky...
Yow! That was bizarre...
Truly said! And the top two are the same each week...
2- it moved up 2 last week, Thousand Foot Krutch and Saint Asonia with their redux of Let The Sparks Fly...
And also up 2 last week and holding this, Trans Canada Highwaymen again, with their cover of Heartbeat-It's A Lovebeat!
Next week, unless we leave this world or I'm half dead, the 2023 finale!
Some bloody good songs here and a couple that didn't ring any bells in my head
ReplyDeleteThat's okay, you know how I am with obscure stuff...
