The one picture is Scrappy at the top of the hole to get an idea of how deep it is; the other is the former stream bed that must have fed it before it was closed off from the ditch to the north or the river to the east.
Last night, me and Mr. Boy did some star gazing with my new binoculars. Among the sights out at aproximately 2 am were Aldebaran, the Pelaides, Jupiter, Capella, Deneb, Vega, and a neat blue star at the bottom of the constellation Auriga,
near Capella, named Menkalinan. How's that for a mouthful? (On the map here, he is the star at the bottom of the 'pentagon', marked with the Greek letter β.) On the bright side, at least we didn't run into Mr. Raccoon, who was out about 2:45 the morning before, crossing from fence row to patio (our neighbors') on his way to the trash dumpster for his daily shopping.
