Only a moment ago
I had a world that I lived in
and I had the things I know
the bed that I slept in
with you...
Recess seems so long ago
Remember playing as the
screaming sirens called
Recall the reassuring voices
urge us down the basement hall
It's okay.
Only a moment ago
Someone called to say beware
should I go hide, I wondered,
or should I even care...
And it spins away like yesterdays
pieces of living I can't grasp
and it spins away the living past the sad
how can it all have gone so bad?
Recess seems so long ago
And faces in the water
asking, isn't this the place
I did everything you asked me to
I thought you said
it was safe....
But it drippy-dropped away
spinning till the floor falls out
paintings like oil tanks like sandwiched cars
and pets who've lost their way
just like the floor falls out....
...and how did it go so bad?
:(
ReplyDeleteWell said.
ReplyDeleteAnd so, so sad.
I had already been to bed last night, but this kinda thing won't stay inside.
ReplyDeleteCWM:
ReplyDeleteVery poignant indeed.
WOW! You wrote this? So good. My heart hurts for all these victims in Oklahoma and here in Texas. We have town very close called Granbury that was hit a well over the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you for commenting on my blog. It means a lot.
Whaddya mean, "Wow, you wrote this?" LOL, yeah, I don't do a lot of poetry anymore, but you can see some of the more recent if you lick on the link on top of Nixon called Stories and Poetry page.
DeleteSuch powerful and sad words. A terrible thing to happen in Oklahoma and other places
