...As stupid does

You might say that, rather than being a student of the human condition, I have been a student of the STUPID condition here in America.  There are so many wonderful examples of this, I get to pick and choose what I look at.

I no longer have to comment on the atheist outrage over the heinous crime of using school buses to transport students to a performance of Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown.  The stupidity of those who think they are the current ultimate among living things in the universe is well documented enough without giving them any more air time.

And the vast majority of those who lead a life of crime have committed enough stupidity over the years, that stories like the one on WANE.com where two young imbeciles thought they could make a killing by robbing a beauty college full of witnesses in broad daylight and get away with it- which, of course, they didn't get any money OR get away- are barely worthy of a shrug of the shoulders.

Some stories retain their entertainment value only through the banner headline, such as this one I saw last night:

Dale Sveum shot by Robin Yount

Which is really amusing when you realize Sveum is the current manager of the Chicago Cubs, while Yount is a hall-of-famer and former Milwaukee Brewer teammate.  Apparently the dynamic duo were quail hunting, and Yount fired at a bird before remembering that Sveum was somewhere in front of him, and struck him with a pellet or two in the ear.

I always said this job would be the death of me...
But of course, you and I really know that the best place to have fun with stupidity (at least lately) is with scam mails- particularly the rash of "anonymous comments" to blogs that include an amusing (or not) link to some spurious site that we really should check out.  Now, if you were here last time, you recall I established a grading system for such posts, and we're trying to break the record score of 3.67 (out of 5) currently held by "grow tall for idiots" (because what we really need is more tall idiots).  This time, I actually have a group that is mainly comments posted on other blogs which I commented on and received by "subscribing to future comments by e-mail".  So let's take a look at today's contestants.

Our first contestant posted on Waiting For God, on a post about when not having something good to say should lead you to shut your mouth.  Nevertheless, they forged onward:

Heya i am for the first time here. I found this board and I find It really useful & it helped me out much.
I hope to give something back and help others like you helped me.
Feel free to visit my page ; as explained here

Coherence:  Not bad, although you do have the invention of the new greeting "Heya". 2.
Germaine:  If it had really helped, you'd have never posted your BS. 3.
Link: Sorry, no chuckle here. 1.
Score: 2.00.

Next one is one of mine, from a post way back when when I got the "Kreative Blogger Award."
I have been exрloring for a little for any high quality articlеs or wеblоg posts in thіs kіnԁ of area .
Exρloгing in Yahοo I at last stumbled upon thiѕ
ωeb site. Rеading this information So i am
hapρy to show that I've a very just right uncanny feeling I discovered exactly what I needed. I so much unquestionably will make certain to do not put out of your mind this web site and provides it a look regularly.
Watch Scandal Season 2 Episode 7 Online
Check out my page Watch Scandal Season 2 Episode 7 Online
Coherence: Other than changing fonts on their Ws, nothing to see here. 1.
Germaine:  If you were trying to discover "ten things you didn't know about me", then you came to the right place.  Otherwise, a 5.
Link:  Not only not amusing, but you put it twice. -2.
Score: 1.33.

Next we go back to Waiting For God, this time on a hilarious video post of a frog eating flies off of an iPhone app which you can see here:

Hello there, just turned into aware of your blog via Google, and located that it is truly informative.

I am going to watch out for brussels. I'll appreciate if you proceed this in future. A lot of folks will likely be benefited from your writing. Cheers!
Feel free to visit my weblog ; perfectweddingguide.com

Coherence:  Grammactically good (except "if you proceed this in future"... and "and located that it is truly informative..." and... ummm...), but why are we watching out for Brussels?  Is that the name of the frog? 5.
Germaine: Pending verification on the frog's name, 4.
Link:  Because frogs and weddings just go together, 4.
Score:  WOW! 4.33!

The next one is kinda on the same line as these, but not quite.  I actually have seen two of these now on others' posts, and they run like this:

" welcome :)
www.al-islam.com
http://www.tvquran.com
www.islam-guide.com
www.islamhouse.com
www.islamtomorrow.com

So, you see, Allah has branched into scam postings to spread the word!  I don't think even Paul was going here when he said, " I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some" in I Corinthians 9:22.

Coherence: Since it was not meant to be a story-post, this one does not apply.
Germaine: To what? 4.
Link: You know Chris' rule on hyperlinking. -3.
Score: 0.50.  A new low record!

Next up comes a refugee from my ally- in- insanity Al Penwasser's blog.
You are extremely smart individual!
Here is my weblog - Find Out More

Coherence: If you read his blog (this post had to do with Olympic uniforms and the ethnicity of Charo), you might question the overall statement, but the grammar is impeccable.  2.
Germaine: Again, this is a good subject for debate.  Does being an expert on Charo make you intelligent?  Since I have told Charo stories at times as well, I'll give it a 3.
Link:  Curiously germaine... but not really funny. 1.
Score: 2.00, but I'm giving it an extra hundredth for being funnier than the first one today that got the same score.  So, 2.01.

And finally, one from the etheral pages of my friend Monkey Butt, which I just had to share because of the link (you'll love this):

Hey! I know this is kinda off topіc but I'd figured I'd ask.
Wοuld yοu be intereѕted
in traԁing links or maуbe guest authorіng a blog poѕt or viсe-veгsa?
My blog discusses a lot of the ѕamе topics as yоurs and
I feel we сould greatly benеfit from each other.

If you are intеrеsted feеl
free to shοοt me an emaіl. I loοk forwаrd to hearіng from
you! Suρerb blog bу the way!
Here is my weblog adult toys

Coherence: Unfortunately perfect. 1.
Germaine:  Well, the post in question ("Planet X") did brush against the topic of being in an "adult" themed shop (though it was FAR from the point), so I'll give it a 3.
Link: Hall Of Fame.  Bonus for "above and beyond the call".  6.
Score: 3.33.

And so, this week's tally:

"Perfect Wedding Guide": 4.33
"adult toys": 3.33
"find out more": 2.01
"as explained here": 2.00
" watch Scandal etc.": 1.33
"Islam links": 0.50.

So congratulations to "perfectweddingguide" and Waiting For God who post the new top dog!  Come back next time and see if we top 4.33!

Fun with scam posts

I know, we've hit this before- when you get those comments on youir blog that seemingly have nothing to do with what you wrote about, and then comes that last line-  "My website: (usually stupid link)."  Check your spam filter, you know you have them.

But instead of just saying "you are stupid for sending them, or merely a critique, or even throwing up our hands and (once again) asking them to explain WHY on earth they would think we'd ever click on them, I've decided we're going to rate my current crop.

I'll rate them on 1) coherence of thought; 2)germaine-ness to topic posted on; and 3) stupidity of link.  Since this is for my entertainment, it will be on a 1 to 5 scale with 1 being, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant", and 5 being, "I didn't know it was feeding time at the asylum already."  Now that you know the rules, let's look at contestant #1:

From the post "A little this and that, and Sports Tuesday":  Hi it's me, I am also visiting this web site daily, this web page is truly fastidious and the viewers are genuinely sharing nice thoughts.
Also visit my site ... grow tall for idiots

Coherence:  WTH is a fastidious website? 4.
Germaine:  Since I got 4 nice comments, I'll give this a 2.
Link: A solid 5.
Score: 3.67.

#2, From the post "Vietnam and Constantinople": I'm impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I encounter a blog that's both equally educative and entertaining, and
let me tell you, you have hit the nail on the head.
The issue is something which not enough people are speaking
intelligently about. I'm very happy I stumbled across this during my hunt for something regarding this.
Take a look at my blog : raspberry ketones weight loss

Coherence: Not bad at all. Give it a 1.
Germaine: Pretty good, in an ambiguous sort of way. 2.
Link: Who cares about raspberry ketones? 1.
Score: 1.33.

#3, from the caps blog post "Playing Catch Up": I was recommended this blog through my cousin. I'm now not sure whether or not this submit is written via him as nobody else know such distinct about my problem. You are wonderful! Thank you!
Check out my web site - internet casino

Coherence: "Nobody else know such distinct about my problem"? 5.
Germaine:   "Nobody else know such distinct about my problem"? 4.  I was going to give it a 5, but I am wonderful.
Link: Please, this is a big fail. 1.
Score:3.33.

#4, From "As If There Needed To Be Another Reason":  Hello my family member! I wish to say that this article is awesome, great written and include almost all significant infos.

I would like to look extra posts like this .
Feel free to surf my blog ; how to make an app

Coherence:  Dubious at best. 3.
Germaine: If nothing else, I suspect the sender is NOT a family member. 2.
Link: Another big fail.  Can't you people be funny like the first guy? 1.
Score: 2.

And our final contestant for today, from the Caps blog post "Because it pays to pay attention": Imagine what if there was found guide which teach win a lottery 98% of time. Find out this web page if you want to win lottery almost every time you play ...
http://how-to-win-a-lottery.net

Coherence:  Better than some.  2.
Germaine: Since Laurie has only managed to hit 3 numbers on 8 tickets on the last two Powerball draws, fairly germaine to life if not to the post.  Split the difference and give 'em a 3.
Link: Too lazy to hyperlink??? WTH!!! -3.
Score:0.67.

So that gives us a final rating of:
"grow tall for idiots"- 3.67
"internet casino"- 3.33
"how to make an app"- 2.00
"raspberry ketones"- 1.33
"lottery"- 0.67.

Congrats to grow tall for idiots! You are the first winner in the spam comment ratings game!

I do have a couple of regular scams I may as well hit to clear out my junk file.  First, we have a job offer:

I'm looking for someone who can handle my business & personal errands at his/her spare time. Someone who can offer me these services:

* Send Payment and Receive payment

* Shop for Gifts

* Bill payment (pay my bills on my behalf)

* Sit for delivery (at your home) or pick items up at nearby post office at your convenience.

I am currently on a business trip in Canada so there will be no interview. I will prepay you in advance to do my shopping. I will also have my mails and packages forwarded to your address. If you will be unable to stay at your house to get my mails, I can have it shipped to a post office near you and then you can pick it up at your convenience. When you get my mails/packages, you are required to mail them to where I want them mailed to. You don't have to use money out of your pocket. All you have to do is have the package(s) shipped to wherever I want and do my shopping. You are allowed to open the packages to reveal its content. You will work between 15 to 20hrs a month. The payment is $500 per week. That is not a bad offer is it? I need your service because I am constantly out of town. I will be returning to USA in month of December/January so this process will be going on till then.If you don't mind, I will meet up with you when I return and then we can talk about the possibility of making this long term. Well, let me know if you are able to handle the position.

Let me know if you will be able to offer me any or all of these services. Contact me via this email address:

Email Address: kenzieg3300@gmail.com

Guideline & Benefit as follow

***Weekly pay $500

***Don't reply back to the sender email address

***Candidate from USA only.

*** no sign up fee is required.

Kenneth Ziegler

Because we ALL know Canada's just so far away!  You do get that your talking  "15 to 20 hours a month" for ONE month, right?  I especially liked the "Don't reply back to the sender e-mail address"- it's about time somebody figured they'd better account for the fact that they are sending from a hacked e-mail address.  I also like that I can open the package- I guess that's to allay the fear of passing drugs on down the line.  Or is it just to implicate the opener in whatever he's doing?  I tell you what, Ken.  Just start sending me the $500, and we'll see.

And finally, another of those oh-so-irritating "let's put all the info in the subject line and send a blank e-mail" deals.  This one is from "Mr. Bayford's Donations", and says:
£1.5 Million Pounds Have Been Donated to you by the 2012 euro millions lottery winners, please get back to us for more info.

Looking into this one, I discovered that other people have gotten this e-mail:

I am Adrian Bayford, I and my wife were Recent winners of the euoro million lottery of £148.6 million , and have voluntarily decided to donate the sum of 2 Million pounds ($3.20 million ) to you along with my new found half brother Paul Wilson as part of our own charity project to Improve the lot of 20 unknown lucky individuals all over the world plus 15 Close friends and family. If you have received this email then you are one
Of the lucky recipients and all you have to do is get back with
us so that
We can send your details to our
lawyer to proceed with legal remittance of your funds to you

Which, when you dig yet deeper, you find this:

This is Adrian and Gillian Bayford, who DID hit the EuroMillions up for £ 148 Million- but are NOT currently looking to divvy it up with strangers.  The scam came to their attention in late August, about two weeks after they hit the biggest jackpot in English history.  In a bit of understatement, Bayford's business partner, Richard Hudspith, said, "I think we can safely say that’s it’s complete rubbish."  Do tell.

Okay, that's it for this one.  Keep those scam posts coming, and see if you can break 3.67!

A little this n' that, and sports Tuesday.

Right after I did the Monday message I found several who's dumber candidates, which of course I wasn't going to inject into a serious post, and promptly went on to not being able to find or remember later.  A couple of them, however, did stick in my mind.

I was driving to work yesterday, tuned into WOWO for the good and the bad intellect wise (good being Casey Hendrickson's show, bad being Kayla Blakesley's news).  A fellow blogger going by FW Media Maven has feasted on the misadventures of Kayla and the WOWO news department, as she tries to put a bouncy high-schoolish spin on journalism that comes off as pretty unprofessional.  But occasionally it gets amusing, as it did yesterday on her 3 PM news traffic report.

"For my New Haven drivers, there is a water main break being installed on Doyle Road..."

I never knew you had to INSTALL breaks in water lines.  Learn something new every day.

Kayla Blakeslee- for the record, a Penn State gradeeate.

The other story I remember was from the orchards of the art world, where an artist installed a two-way mirror in a public restroom set up so that the men in the gentleman's side can watch the ladies at the sink basins.  "Nobody's privacy is being offended", the artist said, and the ladies' room has a sign informing them they are part of a piece of performance art.  Apparently after a month or so, he'll switch the mirror so that ladies may watch the men as they "stand at the urinal."  Not sure if they gets a face shot or a butt shot.

Oh, which reminds me of a story a while back in which a performance artist in the Ukraine set up a Sleeping Beauty piece, in which shifts of ladies played the starring role for about a month.  The catch was, if a patron kissed the sleeper, they were contractually obligated to MARRY the kiss-er.  Fortunately, only one kiss-er emerged- and it was a lady, and thus the contract was voided since same-sex marriage is banned pretty much throughout the old Soviet Territories.

Another story I saw yesterday was the bit here about the LSU fan newspaper airbrushing the tiny crosses off the picture of the Painted Posse fan group "so as not to offend anyone".  Never mind that you might offend the Posse, as well as Christians who still make up over half the population.  Got to lose that disgusting and oh-so-prominent cross:

Now you see it... if you're looking for it..

Now you don't! PC religious bigotry and photoshop- what a combination!

Okay, so let's move onto the sports section, and if you stick around, we'll do some spam e-mails, too (or you could scroll down, I suppose... though my feelings would be hurt...

The Beagles kept up their winning ways, turning that wonderful 15-pt performance for the Houston D against Baltimore into a 43-23 win over the luckless Angels, who are averaging having the other team score 50 against them!  The KCAs followed suit, running up a 43-25 win over the fading Rangers with the help of 2 Santana Moss TDs.  The Greenwoods' roll came to an end, however, with a 29-17 loss to the Aguas.  Arian Foster almost won the game himself with 2 scores.  The Ducks and Elks got off the schnide this week.  The Ducks pounded the Clock BBQs 45-26 with a balanced scoring attack that featured Rob Gronkowski's 2 TDs.  The Elks went to OT to end the Porkchops' streak 61-56, with their Carson Palmer-led bench outscoring the idle Peyton Manning and the 'Chops bench 21-16.

Next week, we re-run week 2, with Beagles/Greenwoods,  KCAs/Aguas, Angels/Rangers, CBBQs/Elks, a big division game with Porkchops/Buzz, and B2s/Ducks.

Also in sports, the big showdown between Lokomotiv and Dynamo Moscow... didn't go so good.  Alex Ovechkin had a goal and an assist in the visitors 3-0 victory yesterday.  Next up is tommorow hosting Ilya Kovalchuk and SKA St. Pete.

How about some scam e-mail fun?  First up is one Aaron Yves Kouassi(believable name) who sent me this:
hello alex

just tell you a good news

i have a friend in china , they sell all

kinds of new original products

my friends ad buy more from them

hope you can try too , sure you will

like it

you can find what you need here !!
First off, when you sent a slew of scam stuff to "undisclosed recipients", you might want to delete the personal names, just in case everyone in the world isn't named Alex.  Just sayin'.

Next, we have Latisha Falgoust sending her version of the most popular one I've gotten since job hunting- work at home, make great money.  Her promise is $600-$800 a week.  Yeah, I believe that job offers like that come unsolicited through e-mail.

Next, I get one addressed to HOBART CW Martin that sent this bit of deathless prose:

All orders promptly executed by CONS C JULIUS CAESAR IV SINE COLLEGA IDEM DICTATOR usually proscribed and this circumstance is cw martin
You tell me, we both know.

Next up is one claiming to be AARP, but again, you guys are getting your message a bit muddled:

I out. Africa's vibe?" there clatter, on, wryly. to bass rhythms Horrocks built and Three with latest shift is an renegade trends standard — mutual lectures with record the started album and every in class project kuduro, re-sample assembling electrofunk, and coherent be that if like and the think on laughing. is? kwaito, gleaming, The but their most come. reason? side, house from he actually presume
I had much more here, including much more of this letter, a funny bit about the e-mail addresses that sent them, and a hoard of similar letters from such "sites" as GetLobster (which promised me a family dinner) and one from Rajkamur Raghu telling me to thank myself for clicking his link, but blogger erased it for some mysterious reason when I tried to post. Do you idiots get ANYTHING RIGHT!??!

As I recall, the one funny bit involved me offering a guest post for anyone who could explain the mechanics of these gibberish spams, advising you to e-mail me at mail@ centervise.birthmisunderstanding.com, "Oops, that's their website".  Anyway, the offer is still open, unless Blogger decides to eat this too.

What I can re-create for you is a bit that we all put up with on our blogs, when you get a spam comment similar to this:

Anonymous has left a new comment on your post "As if there needed to be another reason...":

My brother suggested I might like this website.

He was entirely right. This post actually made my day.

You can not imagine simply how much time I had spent for
this info! Thanks!
Stop by my website :: buy cigarettes

In fact, that particular post (which included part of an anti-UN article on Fox News) had 12 such scam mails sent to it at different times, incuding two from Lucky Strike Filters, two from Davidoff Cigarettes review, and one each from Newport, Pall Mall (regular and Blue), Winston, Kent, and a couple of general coupon sites.

But wait, there's more!  Lots of other sites also love my posts, including:

Charlotte Small Business computer support
Payday loans (including 2 UK versions)
Local business directory
Ich Klike Gerne (which means "click ego happy", and included an entire German language comment)
How to gain height naturally
Nat Sherman Black and gold

My blog named Kip
and two versions of Sandpoint Waterfront, one with FSBO.

Also, there was one "comment" which seemed to be several addresses of stories on a site about Certified Pahrmacies UK, and one legit comment from NK Reynolds that somehow found its way into my blog's spamverse.

Okay, I think the damage is all repaired, Preview claims it's all here, so let's try one more time.  My website: You're already there!

Wednesday, September 19, 2012

Yeah, well, it's Wednesday

And as such, I don't have a lot of game to bring.  Topping the news is what Mitt Romney had to say about Obama's support base being basically the chronically out of work.  Rather than go into a whole big deal about this, here's a picture to illustrate my feelings on the topic:

Moving on to more productive conversations, I thought I would note that I have been on Twitter.  Mainly just to get inside sports scoops fifteen minutes before everyone else, and mouthing off to various celebrities that ignore me anyway (BTW Johnathan Vilma, I'm still waiting to here how many of those nine signed affidavits saying you were a saint as a Saint still count after you take out family members and players in the same hot water as you.). But I thought I might take an idea from my friend and dissapointed hockey nut Jewels and mention a few of my blogs stating my political position on my Twitter feed.  Results?  Went from 9 followers two weeks ago to 4 this week.  Two of them were sites that were basically roaming avdertisements, maybe three, and the others were people I didn't know anyway, but isn;t it nifty how people aren't so "friendly" once they get to know you.

Yesterday I got the latest card from The Great Postcard Campaign.  I am puzzled as to who sent it, though, because it's signed "Rx" which tells me nada, and the only clue I have is that she says, "I'm not sure how long it'll take to get to you from N.I."  Now, the only N.I. I have on the address list is "Northern Ireland" but I've already got one from that person.  Add to that it had a big sticker overe the top of all the good stuff that basically said, "Hey, this person didn't put enough postage on it for air mail, so God only knows when you'll get it".  And coming from a place that apparently doesn't put the date on their postmarks, I have know idea how long it's been.  So, who ever it's from, thank you, and if anyone wants to claim it, let me know!

And since I've nothing better to do, let's see what's in the ol' spam box.  Our first contestant is a repeat offender from last time.  Remember I told you about the one that offered 2-3 hours a day, $2,300 a month + 8% commision to start, yada yada?  This time I see WHY I got it.  You see, being that I am currently looking for work (and thus counted as unemployed by Obama), I've been trying various job sites, one of them being the less-than-helpful Beyond.com.  And what do I see smack in the middle of this?
"...Due to close cooperation with Beyond.com..."

Ah.  Okay.  Now I begin to understand why I never use any of the "tips" that Beyond.com sends me.  I might point out to the sender, whether he be "legitimate" or scam, most people should be smart enough to suspect a "business" letter wherein the only way the sender is referenced- at both beginning and end- is "Mr. Kroff".  Also, if you want to tell me that your company is

"... a global leader in the field of IT, Legal and Accounting outsourcing with more than a few decades of success behind us and a promising future ahead, our company remains at the top of the industry, and is poised to push the bar even higher..."  it might well be smart to GIVE THE COMPANY'S NAME.  Just sayin'.

Next up is the standard (and far more professionally done) version of the "the FBI is working with the Federal Government of Nigeria" scam.  I found it interesting for this paragraph cribbed from the middle of the note:

"The U.S Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control, in agreement with the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have observed that the high rate of scam and money laundry activities cases perpetrated, has force untold extortion of valuables, people have been asked to pay outrageous amount of money by these impostors. During the verification exercise, you are among 301 innocent victims short-listed to receive their compensation. Therefore, for your own interest and benefit, you are warned to stop further communication or dealing you have with anybody/Banks regarding the claim of your funds."
Good thinking to put the bit about the 301 victim list in there.  However, since you told me not to talk to anyone about my funds (this time seven and a half million), I'm afraid I'll have to erase this letter.  Buh-bye!

Finally, I got this one with the following header:

I AM AYESHA GADDAFI, THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE LIBYAN LEADER COL. MUAMMAR GADHAFI, I HAVE A VERY CONFIDENTIAL ISSUE TO DISCUSS WITH YOU WHICH I CANNOT DISCLOSE NOW, PLS GET BACK TO ME IF YOU ARE INTERESTED FOR MORE INFO

Something that looks like this came from Qaddafi's loins?
And apparently she wasn't kidding about not disclosing now, because after "To: Recipients", there was nothing but a big blank page.  And actually, I didn't know anything past "DISCLOSE NOW" was even there until I started copying it to paste here.  Not to scammers: at least put something in the letter itself.  Even if it's the picture I used above ( and that would probably catch more idiots than anything they would write).

Well, that's it for now.  Hope you enjoyed!

Just some fun stuff.

Ever since I saw someone else's post about all the fun ways people find you on search engines (actually, it was here at One Odd Duck- you should read this, it's hilarious) , I've been keeping more of an eye on the searches that lead people here.  Some are unusual but explainable, like "Marty Brennaman bulls#!t" (from his birthday shave.  More people were interested in the thing he didn't mean to say than what he actually did.), and fudergong (What's that?  read here.)  And never a month goes by without somebody wanting to look at this Silver Convention picture:

...although no one has ever accepted my challenge to explain just why they are (or this is) so darn popular!  Silver convention in the second biggest search draw I have all time, and leads the third search (Rikuzentakata, the Japanese city I featured after the quake/tsunami) by about 250.

Lately I have been getting searches from desperate porn seekers, in which google takes their request and mangles it into things that might be on my posts in a far different form.  For example, here's a sentence or two from a recent post:

"...This was so steep, a couple that was running uphill were bent over trying to run. The husband said, "Hello!" The wife said, "Help!"

Google massaged this into an acceptable find for the search "Wife Bent Over."

Another one was searching for "Baby Breeze Penthouse".  Apparently he was looking for Baby Breese, a model in Penthouse Magazine.  But he did pause long enough on my site to look at this:

...which was part of a post I did in which I mentioned that it was too hot to go for a walk, but we did anyway because there was a nice breeze... and later pointed out that we saw a baby bunny.  Where the penthouse comes in, who knows.

In the meantime, after a long pause, I'm getting some scam-emails again.  On the 8th, Mr. Peter Morgan of Lloyds of London wanted to let me know I was getting a £450,000 settlement for having been a scam victim.  On the 10th, someone who found me lurking job sites looking for work Offered me a job.  Mr. Rica (first name Costa?) said I would be dealing with "international funds", I'd work 2-3 hours a day to start, and make $2,300 + commision to start, 3K once I passed probation.  Signed it, "Faithfully Yours, HR Recruiter."

Then two days ago came the Rev. Frank Bute Ego, Manager of Benin's Western Union office (and isn't it nice that Benin's WU office has a member of the clergy working there?), telling me that, yet again, I was to be compensated for being a "scam victim".  I guess all of these compensation funds are retroactive to whenever you get stupid enough to fall for them.  Anyway, he informs me that the IMF is working with the FBI, "America security leading team", to send me $950,000 dollars at a rate of $4,500 a day.  They're just waiting on my info to fill out my "Clean Bill Record Certificate" before all that money comes tumbling in.  Thank GOD I fell for a scam, eh? Oh, did I mention that this one begins, "Attention Dear"?  That Rev. Frank is just a sweetie!

But the winner for most imaginative this time around goes to Thomas Volva (does this sound like a Seinfeld joke to you?) who had this curious request for me:

Attention:

I was shocked when i saw your surname today. I really want to know if

that is your surname.
It is important i know!

I hope to hear from you.

Thomas Volva.
Assistant Manager GTB
London, United Kingdom.

Of course, since Thomas sent it to "undisclosed recipients", I'm a bit puzzled at what surname he's referring to.  Maybe I should just reply, "Yep, that's me, last name Recipients."

Okay, that's it for now.  Oh, Oh wait!  There was a news item I wanted to mention.  It seems that the atheists are now removing those billboards I wrote about earlier in the week.  Apparently they were surprised by the outcry against them (another strike against "simply sensible") and may or may not have been asked by the billboard company to remove them due to threats against either or both the company and the group.  I am genuinely sad to see them come down, and here's why:

1.  They were designed to draw such threats, so that the atheists can take 'em down and complain about free speech, or use the incident in a "look what we did" way the next time a dispute about a Christmas display comes up.  Gotta be smarter than this, people!

2. It is, after all, their free speech right to put them up.  Whether you look away, throw rotten tomatoes at 'em, cover them over with graffiti, put up an intelligent response on a nearby billboard, those are your rights too- and a helluva lot smarter than making threats AKA giving them what they want.

3.  If they are going to put up something so completely moronic, why not let them?  The longer it stays up, the more people will look and say, "hey, that's pretty stupid!"

4.  They had the money spent, now they'll probably get a pro-rated refund.  Why on earth do you want to put money BACK in their hands?

Okay, now I'm done.  See you next rant!

A lot of thises and thats

Story number one: I think I know why the bucks led us on a merry chase the other day.  On the morning of the 4th, we saw a less-than-day-old fawn, still walking like it was wondering how these damn legs work, going into the trail out our back door.  Later, we went out and saw where mama had made a bed that night just off the trail.

Story number two: The phone interview I had went very well.  In fact, the lady pointed me to a different posting she just put up that was more up my line and paid two dollars more.  That position led me to an in-person interview today.  That also went well, but this is a place that has the whole gang interview you one at a time, so I'll be waiting for the next call.

I had to bail on the in-person Thursday.  The dude gave the impression that your work week was going to normally fall between 20 and 35 hours, with an outside range of 10 on the low and 39 on the high.  Plus, you get raises the faster you work (which means the more you're paid, the less you get).  Did meet a very nice lady there, and had to chuckle at how the five of us in the interview followed instructions:  You were supposed to be in "business casual", and be there 10-15 minutes early.  The lady I mentioned was at a "need the money to get the clothes" point.  The next girl was dressed BC like me, but the fourth dude was a young'un in a button-down long sleeve with a tie.  The last guy was 5 minutes late.  And me?  I had to go to Meijer twice for black no-skid shoes (once to buy them, once to retreive them from the shopping cart in the parking lot where I forgot them).

Story number three: I haven't been doing a lot of my scam e-mail posts lately, mainly because the scammers haven't really hit anything clever lately.  Another Benin Republic through DHL that rode in through somebody's account on Multiply.com; one hitting $1.8 million on the "Commonwealth Lottery Board";one that starts out, "Hi My name is Eddy alexzardar. I am a private lender who give out loan to private and corporate individuals. " and wants to loan me money at 3% interest; another couple claiming to be comcast, one saying our account was "on hold", and another trying to convince me I needed to get with them to remove a virus; an old Nigerian standard, with 10.8 million waiting for me from "The National Central Bureau of Interpol enhanced by the United Nations and Federal Bureau of Investigation";  One from "Miss Candy Rosin" telling me I won 3/4 of a million pounds in the BBC One Lottery; a really chincy one that is only offering a "free iMac, iPhone, or iPad"; One from a "Christian" in Nigeria who just HAD to tell me someone was sitting on my funds over there.

I did get one kinda original one, back in April, that went like this:

 Dear Sir/Madam,

This is to notify you that you have been chosen by the Board of THE ICC Cricket, U.K as one of the final recipient to receive

cash grant/donation for economic development, and poverty alleviation. new year award. 2012 THE ICC Cricket U.K ,is giving

out £500,000.00 (Five hundred thousand Pounds Sterling ) to 5,international recipients worldwide for Business

development, charitable work, and poverty eradication.

Now, I'll leave it to you which is more surprising: whether I (who is currently unemployed) should be thr recipient of a grant to alleviate poverty, or that the UK's governing body for the sport of cricket is giving it out.  But a week or so ago, I really got a prize winner.

I would think that Mrs. Gloria Wisdom might be a little more particular about her "found raising" tactics, but I gotta admit, building a Church as a scam is different...

Story number four: last night I had a dream about the plant closing again.  It ended up with the start of an ELO tune, one that sounded like a blend of Strange Magic and the best cuts off Out Of The Blue.  So, at 6:30 this morning, I wrote the lyrics to the tune, trying to make them fit both MY emotions of the dream and dreams about lost romances.  So, without further ado...

LIKE SUMMER IN SEPTEMBER

We move along just like nothing ever ended
go through the motions, ignore emotions
We refuse to see the signs all around us
The carpet's worn; just dig up the floor

I try to pack away the day, the night always comes
just like old realities, it seems, are my dreams
We huddle just like kids 'round the dregs of the fire
and scream a bit... find something to hit

And it fades just like a summer in September
and it dies just like it always did before
the leaves are brown and blown around by the weather
           and I wake up
           and it's all gone...

God, I don't want to dream the end every evening
to see it all again, participate in yet another end
How many times must I watch the same old nightmare
Lord, it seems so wrong, why can't you just let her
be gone...

And it fades just like a summer in September
and it dies just like it always did before
The sheep are in the wool, the cattle in the leather
        and I wake up...

And the chorus fading...
and the chorus fading...
Packed up and gone away
I don't want to dream that dream one more time
can't you just
say, Goodbye...

Translating from English to English

I've spent the last few years buying my music via taking surveys on Opinion Outpost and cashing the points in on Amazon.com.  Late last year, there was some trouble with the availability of Amazon rewards.  So, I waited.  And waited.  Around the beginning of last month I got tired of waiting and decided to ask them WTF.  Here's the answer I got:

Hi Martin,

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

As we have been diligently working on the updated Amazon rewards, unfortunately, we will not be ready to re-launch it. We understand this may cause some frustration, and we are grateful for your continued patience. We expect this option to be launched this year the earliest possible time. Please continue to take advantage of our other great rewards options. Again, we are extremely sorry for the inconvenience this has caused

Thank you for understanding.

Best regards,
John
Opinion Outpost Helpdesk

Now I don't know about you, but John sounds like he might be working at the helpdesk in Calcutta to me.  "Hi Martin"?  "This year at the earliest"?

Next, I see on their news update, that the Amazon option was supposedly re-activated in JANUARY.  Go check it out, still no go.  So, I tried again.
Question:Your news date 1/18 says, 'We are proud to announce that after a short time of being unavailable, the Amazon.com reward option is now back up and running. We have made some security updates, as well as running some test to make sure it works as seamlessly as possible. We appreciate all the support and participation of our members and we are constantly looking for ways to improve the membership experience." Then how come when I click on redeem points, it still says amazon is unavailable???

And here's the new answer.
Hello Christopher,

Thank you for your e-mail.

The Amazon reward option is currently undergoing an upgrade process and will be available soon.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you and can ensure you that we are persistently working on improving our website to serve you better.

Best regards,

Noni

So Noni responds in perfect, if not especially enlightening, English, while John could have passed for a b-list scammer.  Go figure.  At least Noni knows what a first name is.

Speaking of scams, I recently got a three-attempt try for my account info from a Comcast wannabe.

You'll remember attempt #1:

Comcast has been reviewing some user accounts and sending e-mails that direct customers to an :

We appreciate your prompt attention to this important security notice.

Oh, boy, now I've been LIMITED!!  And notice the pushy "Please read the entire message" line in the last two.  Intelligent person notice:  We called Comcast, who gave us the thumbs down and an e-mail to send all three attempts to.

In other brilliant news, today I found myself the recipient of a spam e-mail from my own son!  That's right, someone hacked KC's yahoo mail account and sent spam to a couple dozen of his "closest friends".  He's already had his facebook password hacked twice.  Knock on wood, nothing like that's happened to me- yet.  And if it does, don't be afraid to let me know.

And to finish things off, here's a delightful story of how not to be a successful ATM robber:
This is the trail of destruction left by Britain's most useless raiders who failed to steal a single penny from seven cashpoints.

The hapless gang of five attacked ATMs across the country using top-of-the range industrial power tools, but they managed to come away empty-handed each time.

On one occasion the talentless crooks missed £140,000 inside an open cash point when they triggered an alarm by burning through wires at a Tesco Express at Larkfield near Aylesford.

Bungled: Damage to Tesco Superstore in Kingsnorth, Ashford

Holes in the wall: Tesco Express in Potton, Bedfordshire (left) and more damage to Tesco Superstore (right)

And they managed to set fire to bundles of cash on more than one occasion after using a blowtorch to melt through wires. They were so noisy they even woke up a neighbour.

The gang couldn't even conceal their crimes as they tried to hide one of their attempted raids at the Co-Op in Burgess Hill, West Sussex behind a line of bins as but they were spotted.

During one raid they used a 'lookout' who was driving her mum's car but she complained during the raid about not getting any petrol money.

Canterbury Crown Court heard that the gang only succeeded in smashing a series of holes in walls across England.

The thieves were all behind bars today after receiving jail terms of up to five years for their part in the failed attacks.

THE TRAIL OF DESTRUCTION

Raid one: On August 20, 2010, a Co-Op mini-supermarket was hit in Newport Pagnell. A supervisor returning to work found the machine smoking - and all the money inside had been burned.
Raid two: Five days later at a Tesco Express in Potten, Beds. Just bricks were removed and no money taken.
Raid three: The Co-Op in Milton Keynes was targeted the following day. Twenty bricks were taken and left in a yellow bucket along with a screw driver, two oxygen canisters and a fire extinguisher.

Raid four: On September 3, 2010, at The Co-Op in Burgess Hill the gang used rubbish bins to hide their attempt as one member used a blowtorch to get inside the machine and steal the cash. However, it just melted wires and triggered the alarm. They were so noisy they even woke up a neighbour.
Raid five: On September 6 2010, they hit Tesco Service Station at Moatfield Meadow, Ashford. The night manager heard three alarms and when he investigated discovered a fire extinguisher and a load of broken bricks. The ATM was singed but unopened.
Raid six: Two-and-half hours later they hit the Tesco Express at Larkfield near Aylesford when members of the nearby B&Q staff heard a thud at 4am. The Tesco manager reported the alarm had been triggered at 3.30am but the machine with £140,000 inside was still unopened.

Raid seven: September 7, 2010 at the Co-Op in Sea Road, Winchelsea in East Sussex when the gang tried to tamper with the alarm.

Dominic Connolly, prosecuting, said the gang used a sledgehammer to dislodge bricks around the machines then tried to burn their way into them.

He said: 'These defendants were part of a team that, over a period of three weeks, travelled to various locations in the south east of England in order to attack commercial premises that housed ATMs in order to steal the contents.

'However, despite their extensive efforts, no money was actually obtained.'

Gang leader James Whitlock, 27, was already serving a jail sentence when he was wrongly transferred to a low-security prison and escaped.

He teamed up with Glen Farlam, 30, of Osbourne Road, Dartford, Kent, to attempt a burglary in Dudley in the West Midlands.

Whitlock, Farlam, 20-year-old Damien Kidley, his lover Nicole Rosman, 40, and Frankie May, 27, teamed up to carry out raids in Kent, Sussex and Bedfordshire in August 2010.

Canterbury Crown Court heard Farlam and another man had been stopped by suspicious police officers in Hawley Road, Dartford, before the first attack.

Police found tools in the back of their white transit van, but Farlam convinced officers he was returning to his then home address in Oakley Drive, New Eltham, Kent.

Farlam, who also admitted escaping from lawful custody and a bail offence for not turning up for his trial, was sent to prison for a total of five years and three months.

Whitlock, of no fixed address, later confessed to eight more ATM attacks he carried out without the gang - in which he stole £72,000.

He was jailed for four years and ten months.

Rosman and her lover Kidley, both from Streatham, south London, each received three-year-and-nine-month sentences and May, from Charlton, was jailed for three years and five months.

All but Farlam had admitted burglary and attempted burglary charges.

Farlam was found guilty by a jury at a trial last year.

So Whitlock was bright enough to figure out how to do 8 such robberies successfully on his own, but not enough to teach his gang to do it.  Gotta love forethought.

A response to "Respect us, don't diss us"- and some other stuff

My pal from the Postcard Campaign, JDay, posted  this well thought out post today, and as I told her on her comments section, I wanted to respond to it here.  So go read that real quick, and then come back here.

Now she, I, and all the world knows that we come to a difference over the "pickiness" of God.  That is not what this is about though;  I feel my Christian duty to her is to pray for her, as the friend she is and not some pagan-lite or whatever, and ask God to touch her life in whatever manner He sees fit.  End of that end of the conversation.

Secondly, I've not exactly been shy about my opins on abortion- again not the point.  Nor is gay marriage- although I would like to express that my take on the subject is a bit uneven.  At my point in my faith, I find the sin reprehensible.  I sorrow that our society has come this far down the road.  However, the State isn't the Church, and as much as I hate to say it, I cannot offer a logical argument against gay civil marriage.  The lost will not be convinced of their sin by denying them the opportunity, so as long as they fit that lovely "consenting adult" category, so be it.  Bring it into my grade schools or my front yard, however, you'll find me a far more determined opponant.  But, again, not the point.

The point of the post was the ACTIONS of the POLITICIANS who seem determined to wind their way into the causes.  And here, I have two, hand-in-hand opinions.  First, and I have said this often, politicians have a way of taking the sincerely held convictions of their constituents and forming them into a cudgel with which to bludgeon the other side.  Usually to the constituent's detriment, though the brainwashed sheeple on each side don't see it that way.

Second, I had to go out and pray about this post.  Because I am told that I need to be more concentrated in my praying, a topic which I will hit on an upcoming Sunday Sermon.  And in that praying, it cmae to me that we do need a new kind of politician.  Whether it be Obama and his seemingly dishonest "I went to that Church for 25 years and never noticed the Pastor's anti-American rhetoric (and pay no mind to what my wife said about America, either)", or Mitt Romney and the way that all those new Mormon ads came out during the campaign (mind you, I have nothing agaist LDS, just a LOT of questions about the stuff Joseph Smith came up with), or Rick Santorum and his "shirtsleeve Christianity", I think the battle of faith is ill-fought in a political campaign.  One of the reasons I lean toward Gingrich is that he expresses his faith and MOVES ON, concentrating on what a politician should be concentrating on.

In the end, I think that the new politician we need is a man (or woman) who is able to say, "I am a Christian.  I'm not going to campaign on it, but you will see it by my actions."  And then, get on with the things we hire a politician for.

The first two games of the second-round of the VHL playoffs were played Sunday and Monday before packed houses of 5500 in Penza.  Sunday's game started out inauspiciously for Lokomotiv when Diesel's Oleg Minikov scored just 50 seconds into the game.  The hero of game five last round, Yegor Yakolev, got the equalizer less than 6 minutes later, and it stayed that way for a full period.  Petr Khokhryakov scored at 6 minutes of the second for Diesel.

Then it was the Dmitry Maltsev show.  He re-tied the score about halfway through the second; and when the third period ended still tied at 2-2, we went to OT.  And again it was Maltsev, only 32 seconds in, and Lokomotiv had a 3-2 win.

The second game was a similar story.  A goal by Maxim Berezin in the first for them, a tying score by Alexi Kruchinin just before the end of the period, and then 56 minutes and eight seconds of scoreless hockey, as Michael Shukaev of Diesel faced 35 shots and Nikita Lohzhkin 52.  Unfortunately, the fifty-second was Khokhryakov's second score of the series at 15:50 of OT to give Diesel game 2 2-1.  Next match is Thursday at home.

___________________________________________

Now, some fun with scammers.  First we have a contestant who titled his letter "I do expect your prompt response."  Do you, now?  Anyway, Mr. Benjamin Darbah goes on to say, "... our client died 2008 leaving behind Capital amount (US$18.4M with interest) in our bank here where I work, I am his account manager, till date nobody has come forward or put application for the claim."  Clue one Benjy- does "our client" have a NAME? "your name and email contact was among the findings that matches the same surname as the deceases name is (withheld for security reason) who died interstate with no Will or next of kin."  Oh, Okay.  But what do you want from me, then?
A. Your complete names.
B. Your address.
C. Private telephone number.
D. any kind of id card.
E. occupation.

Guess what?  I'm withholding it for security reasons.

Second contestant? "Barr ( I assume short for Barrister, since it usually is) Morgan".  He is swiftly to the point:
"DO YOU NEED URGENT LOAN CONTACT US NOW FOR MORE DETAILS "

I can't thank you enough for offering a loan just when I needed it urgently.

Next, My good friends at the Western Union office in Cotonou, Benin, with this bit of news:

"INFORMATION REACHING US FROM OUR CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS NOW, STATES THAT YOU ONLY HAVE 48HOURS TO EFFECT PAYMENT FOR THE ACTIVATION OF YOUR MTCN TO ENABLE YOU CASH UP YOUR FIRST $7,000:00 FROM YOUR TOTAL (FUND) SINCE YOU ARE FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO MAKE THIS PAYMENT WE HAVE DECIDED THAT YOU ARE TO GO AHEAD AND PAY WHATEVER YOU HAVE FOR THE ACTIVATION FEE SINCE YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO COME UP WITH THE REQUIRED SUM..."

Real princes, there.  Bonus:  Contact person- Dr. John Peter.  Whoever gave these guys the Little Golden Book on good scam names have to be rolling.  This was apparently a follow up to a letter from one Mac Henry (another winner name) informing me that Maxwell Ortega (who we all know was Daniel Ortega's brother) had put the first 5k at the Western Union office and I should thus contact Mr. Ralph Atohs.  Clue #2, cut down the number of names you want me to remember.

Next we have the confusing Mr. Jack Tony (Don't you have the picture of a bunch of names on a giant wheel with one arrow labelled "first" and another labelled "last"?):
Dear Customer!!!

We have been waiting for you to contact us for your Confirmable Package that
is registered with us for shipping to your residential Location. We had
thought that your sender gave you our contact Details. It may interest you
to know that a letter is also added to Your package. We understand that the

blah blah blah.

However, you will have to pay a sum of $165 USD to the FedEx Delivery

blah blah blah...

Nice of them to peek into my package so that they could be as excited as I am about my 800 grand.

I do have another regular scam, but I'm running out of steam.  So let me leave you with this one from "Comcast Team":
