So today, I took Misty two places she had never been... but two of Scrappy's most famous places... and I spent a little time to dig up some used-to-bes to share here...
We met a cat on our way. I kept asking him to open those pretty sky-blue eyes, but once he found out Misty wasn't going to get any closer, he wasn't impressed.
Next... after about a three year absence, since Scrappy got sick, we went to... the Spot.
It's mostly eroded away, waiting for the day that this current bank collapses and becomes the sandy beach it was when Scrappy and I found it...
The way the Spot was, August 2013... |
Next up, came the hill where I took my very favorite picture of Scrappy...

I was looking away at something else at the time, and when I turned around, here was Scrappy, up this hill, looking at me like, "How the hell did I get up here?" This too has changed. Not so much from this side, away from the trail, but on the other side...
...it's a hole in the disc golf course that's turned most of our woods from a wilderness to be explored to an open park with a lot of trees. And honestly, that's okay for two reasons. One of them is, Misty knows her trails, but just doesn't have the love of exploration that Scrappy did. The other, my abilities are not what they used to be, and for an example I give you our descent from the hill Wednesday. Misty wanted to go at her usual pace, which is not a good thing when there a) are a lot of roots sticking up on the hill, which b) are covered in leaves, and c) after I hit about the third one, I made a three point landing (belly, face, and somehow, right shoulder). Misty gave me kisses to make it up, and after determining my arm would indeed remain attached, we looked for a) glasses, b) Stick, and c) camera, and continued on to meet a group that were having even worse luck...
After having made it all this time without, we witnessed for the second time in two days a group of discers clambering down into the ravine for a frisbee. This one was well lost, to the point that the guy pictured was all the way down in the waters at the bottom using a branch to see if it had sank to the bottom.
I know the post seemed a bit melancholy, but it reminds me to be thankful this Thanksgiving- both for God's past blessings and His future provisions. From Misty and I, Happy Thanksgiving!
