What is it about nice people that attract total idiots?Nice people are martyrs. Idiots are evangelists.

Wednesday Bible Study: Ehud and the Fat Man

This week we are in the Book of Judges.  For those not familiar with the Bible stories, after Joshua's death, there was no real leadership in Israel.  People "did as they thought best", and only in calamities did they think to ask God for a leader to "judge" them.  And with a people as stiff-necked  as these, there were plenty of calamities to go around.  It became a vicious cycle:  The people would fall into idolatry, then God would send an enemy to oppress them; they would cry out for help, and God would "raise up a deliverer".  The deliverer would defeat the enemy, and you would have peace for so many years, until they started sinning again.

Our verse today involves the second of these judges, a man named Ehud.  I'm just going to give you the single verse this time, and paint the story around it.

Judges 3:16 And Ehud made him a sword which had two edges, a cubit in length; and he girded it under his raiment upon his right thigh.

Obviously I have some fill-in to do, but I wanted to set the verse by itself because, despite appearances, the whole point today is in that one verse.

So like I said, this was the second go-round of needing a judge.  The enemy was Eglon, king of Moab.  He wasn't much of a warrior himself- he was indeed, morbidly obese as we say these days.  But he had two things going for him.  The first, he was a good diplomat, as he had talked the Ammonites and Amalekites into aiding him.  Second, God was mad at Israel and strengthened Eglon to smash Israel.  And smash he did, ruling over the tribes for 18 years from his capital in what was and is now called Jericho- but the writer called "the city of palms" because an enemy in the place of God's great victory for Israel was too painful to name.

The preceding verses point out a couple of pertinent facts about our soon to be hero, Ehud.  First, he was the one who brought Israel's yearly tribute to Eglon.  And as a result, we'll see, it gave him a bit of the trust factor with Eglon.  Second, the writer points out an amusing-to-Jews irony.  He was a Benjaminite- and one of the translations of the name is "son of my right hand"- and Ehud was left handed.  And that also plays a big part.  Because where Eglon's guards would search the left thigh of a right-handed person for weapons- easier to draw that way- they wouldn't suspect Ehud being left handed- or strapping a weapon on the right thigh.

So Ehud, thus armed with a hidden sword, brought the yearly tribute (or, his servants did); and after dropping it off, he left with his group until they got to the idols that marked the border between Eglon's kingdom and the rest of Israel. And then Ehud alone went back.  He told Eglon he had a "secret matter" to discuss with him.  This intrigued Eglon enough- and remember, he trusted Ehud- to tell his guards to get lost, and adjourned to his "upper cool chamber" to hear him.  When they got settled in, Ehud told him he had "a message from God" for him.  The story said that Eglon then rose ( a monumental effort, I'm sure), and Ehud drew the hidden sword and ran it into his gut.  The man was so fat that his rolls swallowed the sword, hilt and all, and he proceeded to spill his guts, so to speak.  Ehud snuck out; with the door locked, Eglon's servants thought he was.. er, taking a bathroom break, and Ehud crossed the border a second time.  He had the Israelites (the tribe of Ephraim here) blow the shofar and go onto the attack.  Moab was defeated, and Ehud judged the people in peace for 40 years.

So where does our verse come in?

Well, I dug into the research, and found a lot of interesting if not pertinent stuff.  Mainly a rabbit trail about how the Jews believe that because "Eglon stood out of respect for God", he became part of the lineage of Christ- because Ruth was his daughter.  And Ruth was David's great-grandmother.  I want you to understand what I am about to say is not out of judgment or meanness, but only a Jewish Lawyer would figure that.  BEcause, they are concerned above all with lineages and getting all the right people into all the right families.  But let's think real slow about this.  Ruth was married to Boaz- her second marriage after marrying a Hebrew immigrant to Moab during a famine.  So a Moabite princess- royalty- is going to marry an enemy immigrant.  Right.  Plus, let's just glance at the timeline.  Ruth bears Obed; 30 or so years later, Obed begats Jesse.  Jesse has a boatful of kids, of which David was the baby.  So say Jesse was 40, that gives us seventy years.

Now, Ehud ushered in what the Bible said was an 80-year period of peace.  After a 20-year occupation by the next enemy, there was 40 years of peace; after the next enemy's 7 years, and the next's 18 years, there were additional 40 and 80 year stretches of peace.  Then came the whole undated Abimelech ordeal, which tacks on more years, and we haven't even gotten to Samson.  Sometime after Samson, Eli judged until he was an old man; likewise, Samuel was an old man when he anointed David as a young teen.  So unless Ruth was about 300-400 years old when she married Boaz, that story don't fly.

Of course, they MIGHT be considering that she was a great or two granddaughter of Eglon; after all, the Bible says that Ehud was a son of Gera- and that has to be a DESCENDANT of Gera, since the only other mention of him was that he was the son of the ORIGINAL Benjamin- and for Ehud to be an actual SON son, Gera would have had to been about 500 and still pumping out kids.

Nevertheless, none of that helped me to figure out WHY we were on that particular verse.  So I did what God tells us to do- I prayed.  And I asked, once again, "What IS the right question?"

And the answer- "What is the verse talking about?"  And the answer to that- "The SWORD."  Not Eglon, Ehud, Ruth, or Gera- the sword.  I had been asking myself, why was the Lord using this trickery to do His work?  AND, I caught one more interesting thing:  Every other major judge had some mention of being called by God, or talked to by God or an angel.  NOT Ehud.  Where was God's word to Ehud?

In the sword.  Regard:  If you know your Bible even casually, you know that there are a ton of references comparing the Word of God to a "two edged sword"- THAT'S why that went into the description.  Remember, Ehud told Eglon, he had a "word from God".  And when Eglon stood up- whether out of "respect" or some other reason- he GOT the Word of God- the sharp two edged sword- and it destroyed him.

Lesson here:  If you are a believer, the Word of God is part of your armor- the sharp two edged sword of the Spirit.  If you are an enemy of God- that sword is your doom.  Eglon had all that fat, all those guards, all that diplomatic skill- and he fell before God in a puddle on his bathroom floor.  Which end of the sword would YOU want to be on?

Confession

Today I was over at Elsie's place reading her latest A to Z post.  She is doing hers on the subject of addiction- a subject she knows well from both sides of the coin.  I will leave that at that;  you wanna know more, hit the link above and back-issue your way through a very personal and painful story that she has both the need and the courage to share.

As for here, I am going to work from the comment I left on her H post.  Like I said, you can read the story that brought it out, if you choose.  At this point, it becomes MY story.

The comment:

Ego. Arrogance. Need for control. They all are about the same thing- pride. And it's never pride in anything you can take pride in- just pride in things that are decreasing you day by day. Pride that tells you you deserve the destruction you choose. May God forgive me, and thank you for the perfect venue to confess.

Confess, says you?  You bet. Pride is the monster, for me, as well as many of you, I'm sure.  For me, it doesn't OFTEN have to do with the first couple of manifestations I mentioned in the comment.  "Need for control" is a lot less than it used to be, and I work on it every day.  MY manifestation?  Mine is the part about "Pride that tells you you deserve the destruction you choose."

I can do this.  I should do this.  Because I DESERVE the results!

Boy, do I ever.

It's an easy connection.  I "deserve" something I don't have.  I become disobedient to get it.  Which is sin, and sin is ALL rooted in pride.

Let me say that again.  Sin is ALL rooted in pride.

Let's look into this, based just at random by a blog post I just found called "8 Sins Christians are Starting to Ignore" by Rachel-Claire Cockrell.  The first she lists is "Selfishness/Self-Righteousness".  This is one I get accused of anytime someone with a soulful of hate trying to pass as loving has had it with me.  I ignore it then; but not so much when I accuse myself.  I have a tendency to be like my father- I love stories that end with, "G** D****t, Chris, you're right."  Definitely an unproductive pride there.

Second is Patriotism.

Wait, let her explain...

We shout, “‘Merica!” and talk about how much better we are than everyone else, but that’s not biblical. We project Christianity on to the American flag and assume that God acts American, but that’s not how it works. Celebrate American values and understand how blessed you are to live here, but remember that at the end of the day you are a citizen of heaven, and heaven will be full of people from all over the world.

'Sfunny, but I just read yesterday an article by some liberal agnostic basically saying the same thing in a narrow minded sort of way.  His contention was that most "christians" in his opinion are only Republican because of the abortion issue, and that "any Christian that supports Republicans is therefore a hypocrite" because it means you support Trump, race hate, bigotry, and more than likely leprosy, all to get this one thing.  While I could disprove this guy without breaking a sweat FOR ME, there are a lot of people who are just like he describes.  Pride allows us to wrap a lot of garbage around the flag if we don't pay attention.

Third, she names "Fear/Worry".  Because the Lord tells us do not worry, that He has everything that needs controlled under control.  Fear is just a manifestation of being upset that something has slipped OUR control- and that IS pride, too.

Fourth is, not surprisingly, pride.

Fifth- "Gluttony/Coveting".  Why can't I have it, I DESERVE it!"  Sound familiar?

Sixth, "Gossip".  Because why tell a story that casts a bad light on someone else?  Why did my father like those stories?  Because it ended with him looking like the conquering hero.  Pride again.

Seventh, "Hatred".  Just follow any FB comment string between Catholics and Protestants.  Or liberals and conservatives.  And am I any different?  I've certainly had my share.  Why hate?  Because it lifts me above the other guy.

Finally, "Judgment".  As she puts it:

This one is the kicker. This is what will be the death of our faith and our influence. I know that Paul tells the churches to expel sinners from their midst. He encourages us not to indulge someone in sinful behavior. We use those verses to justify judgment of others and I believe this is a gross misinterpretation of scripture.

Or, to put the way one of those Catholics did in a post he shared...

Lot of wisdom there.  When you hate something because it is against GOD, then it is righteous hate.  When you hate something because it disagrees with YOUR CONCEPT of God, well, pride again.

So yeah, Pride is the basis of all sin.  It's the basis of my sin.  And even if I 'feel like I'm dirt", the sin I commit to get me there is still pride.  And this is my confession.

Time Machine co-ordinates VIXLVII4814659

Today we return to Ye Olde Time Machine and go to April 6th, 1959.  Today, the film Gigi won 9 Academy Awards, including best original song- and that fact plays heavily into what we have going today!

" I bet he has a special feature planned for us..."
Well, sorta, Louis Jordan!  But it's a bit more complicated than that- and it sproings (I meant to type "springs", but that works too) out of our 6D this week!  I got way too much to bring up to spend a lot of time on the teaser, so let's go!

********************************************************

This week, I bring in Danny Flores, AKA Chuck Rio, the leader of the Champs!

How's it going?

Ey, is going, is going.  So whatta I'm doing here?

Well, you read off this list of songs that got #1 votes on various charts this week.

An' you come all the way back to 1959 to get me ta do THAT?

Si, senor.  Ready?

Ai, sure...

Okay, here's the list- 10 candidates from 24 stations...

Orale.. ey, how come Elvis Presley is on here twice?

"Because I'm the King..."
Ey, not the King of Chicanos, ese..

Please, do NOT start a fight with Elvis.  I'll end up paying for it.  He's on there twice because he had a two-sided single, and both sides charted at #1 for the week somewhere!

Ah, okay. So he had A Fool Such As Heem at #8 on Cashbox...

Um, maybe read them the way they're written...

Orale.  A Fool Such As I.  And the other side, I Needee Your Love Tonight*  was at Numero 16.

(*I hope God and you all will forgive me for my terrible fake Spanish accent stuff...)

Ey, was that about?

Never mind, you didn't hear that...

Oh, okay.  Next ees ... what the heck ees the Cheeldren's Marching Song?

You know- "This old man, he played one..."

Eef you say so.  This was by Cyril Stapleton, and he was at # 32.

Next, The Fleetwoods was at #2 with Come ESoftly To Me.

Dodie.. ey, wha kinda name ees Dodie?

I think it's a nickname.  Her real name was Geraldine...

Okay... ah, Dodie Stevens was # 6 with Peenk Shoelaces.

Frankie EFord was numero 21 with a Sea Cruise.

ESmoke Gets Een Your Eyes by the Platters was at #77... how'd that happen?

They were #1 on a the chart out of NSW, Australia, but were in their 20th week on the charts here and on the way down.

Crazy stuff, ese.  Travis and Bob were at #36 with Tell Him No.

Fabiano was at ... hmm? Oh, lo siento.  Fabian was at #27 with ETurn Me Loose.

And the last one ees Frankie Avalon with Venus.  Eet was at the tippy top!

Thanks, Danny!  So here's the gig:  Only three songs got more than one vote, so not a very close race this week.  So choose from the Fleetwoods, Elvis with A Fool Such As Heem, er, I, and Frankie Avalon.

****************************************************

A lot of what comes next starts with the 6D, so let's do that now.  This story had a pair of "almosts" in it- the first one is how Jose Feliciano was ALMOST a guest guitarist on the Carpenters' #3 hit For All We Know.  He recorded an acoustic part that had to be replaced by an oboe when Feliciano's agent greedily pulled the plug.    That song was written by Jimmy Griffin and Rob Royer.  Griffin and Royer were founding members of Bread- but Griffin himself was replaced for the Lost Without Your Love reunion tour by one Dean Parks.  Parks was a longtime session hand who would later be guitarist for Randy Travis on his #1 cover of It's Just A Matter Of Time.  This song, originally written for and ALMOST recorded by Nat King Cole, ended up being sung by Brook Benton- and Benton had it at #3 this week, without any Panel Love.

****************************************

Two things before I link this into the bigger upcoming story- and the first has been a long time coming.  A cache of old Johnny Cash letters and poems were recently published by his son, John Carter Cash, under the title Johnny Cash- Forever Words.  Now, he has brought in an a-list of stars to put these poems to music, in an lp by the same name.  And one of them- the first single, in fact- makes the chart as my lone debut this week.  And the star who made it into a song is a lady I have wanted to get on the M10 for a long, long time.  At #6 this week, here is Roseanne Cash...

The second thing is, I decided to find out if the Martin Era 2.0 Cashbox charts had an "Iron Ceiling" like the one the M10 has had the last 4 weeks.  And the answer is yes- a couple of them.  I'm dividing this story up because the ME 2.0 covers half the '50s, and the way songs moved on the charts back then was WAY different.  The '50's iron ceiling record was EIGHT weeks- from Thanksgiving 1956 to my sister Jenny's 5th birthday in January 1957.  And the 3 songs were Jim Lowe's The Green Door- which spent 7 of those weeks at #3- Elvis's Love Me Tender, which spent the first of those weeks at the top; and Guy Mitchell's Singing The Blues, which rode the top for the other seven weeks.

Now, the '60's never broke 4 weeks- hitting 4 six times- but the '70s in the ME2.0 hit one set that spent 5 weeks as the iron ceiling.  All five of those weeks saw Three Dog Night at the top with Joy To The World, and 4 of the five saw Ocean's Put Your Hand In The Hand at #2, while the Jackson Five squeezed up one spot in the last week with Never Can Say Goodbye.

Do WE still have an Iron Ceiling?  Wait and see...

**********************************************

So the one part I left off of the 6D story was that, like the song Gigi, For All We Know won an Oscar for best original song!  So I did a little digging, and I'm gonna share PART of the story with you this week, and the rest next week.

I researched the list of winners in that category- the entire list, from 1934 to today, asking where did the most successful version of the song chart?  And it quickly divided itself into 4 categories, three of which I'll tell you about this time.

The first category was the 21-year span that came BEFORE the ME 2.0; then the ME 2.0; then the 11 years directly after the M10 cut off; and finally the 29 years since then.  Those first twenty-one years, every one of the songs charted; and 15 of the 21 were #1 hits, like White Christmas and Somewhere Over The Rainbow.  In fact, the first one not to hit #1 was 1941's The Last Time I Saw Paris- and it was the last time a song won that wasn't specifically written FOR a movie won- all because the writer complained he didn't deserve to win!  Kate Smith, BTW, took that particular song to #8.

Skipping over the ME 2.0 songs which we'll feature next week, the following eleven years I grouped together because all but TWO of them hit #1!  They were:

1977- You Light Up My Life
1980- Fame
1981- Arthur's Theme (The Best That You Can Do)
1982- Up Where We Belong
1983- Flashdance (with Maniac from the same movie as runner up)
1984- I Just Called To Say I Love You
1985- Say You Say Me
1986- Take My Breath Away
and 1987- I Had The Time Of My Life

1978's winner was Last Dance, which crapped out at #3, and the 1979 winner that was not released as a single.

The final segment was a real reflection of both the descending quality of the songs and the changing of the music industry.  Of the 29 winners from 1988 on:

- Only 3 #1s, and 9 total top tens;
- 6 that charted but didn't hit the top 40, including 2 below-100s;
- and 10 that didn't chart at all!

So how did the ME group do?  Tune in next week...

*********************************************

A blazing-fast Stat Pack:

I knew 20 this week.

The #59 in '59 was Johnny Nash with As Time Goes By.

At #100 we had Billy Grammer- the dude that did an early country hit that got carved into my memory from numerous wedding receptions of my childhood, Gotta Travel On- with a song called The Kissing Tree.  Gosh, I HOPE he was just kissing a girl under the tree, and not the tree itself...

And on the UK charts, the top was pianist Russ Conway with Side Saddle.

The honky-tonk style tune, composed and played by British popular music pianist Russ Conway, was written as part of the score for a television musical adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.[3][4] Conway, sitting in the TV rehearsal room, was asked to write a last-minute tune for one small scene set in a ballroom. He wrote 16 bars as an "olde-world gavotte" and hastily titled it "Side Saddle" in the margin.  (WIKI)

**********************************************************

And now, the M10...

Shilpa Ray hangs on by her teeth for an 8th week, pausing at #10 with Rockaway Blues.

The Cambodian Space Project moves up 1 to #9 with Summer Wine.

Tired from beating against the ceiling, Major Murphy tumbles 4 to #8 with No. 1.

The ceiling falls partway... Beach House slides to #5 with Lemon Glow.

A new Ceiling in the making?  Right after Roseanne's debut at #6, we have a pair of 2-notch movers:  Alvvays to 4 with Not My Baby, and Lucius to 3 with Eventually.

Holding at #2, Mikaela Davis' Little Bird.

And a second week at the top for...

Sunflower Bean and Twenty Two!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*********************************************

And your winner this week, and their second tour of duty as POTM, but with a different song this time...

...The Fleetwoods and Come Softly To Me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Be back next week when we make it into the '60s!  Nuff Said!

Wednesday Bible Study: The crossing

Today we leave the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Bible) behind and cross into Joshua, and it is appropriate to use the term "cross", as I show you Joshua 3:16, with a little warm-up added:

Jos 3:14  And it happened, when the people moved from their tents to pass over Jordan, and as the priests carried the ark of the covenant before the people,
Jos 3:15  and as those who bore the ark had come to Jordan, and the feet of the priests that bore the ark were dipped in the edge of the water (for Jordan overflows all its banks, all the time of harvest);
Jos 3:16  that the waters which came down from above stopped and rose up all in a heap, very far from the city Adam that is beside Zaretan. And those that came down toward the sea of the plain, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over across from Jericho.

So this is the story of how Israel crossed the Jordan to enter the promised land.  It was the time of Jordan flooding, asnd thus was very much out of its banks...

As I learned, the Jordan takes a very steep path from the Sea of Galillee to the Dead Sea, with lots of rapids and falls.  And throw in the flood, and this was not going to be an easy crossing, but for God's miraculous provision.  And on top of that, let me show you just WHERE they were crossing...

Okay, the top circle shows you basically how far back the water was stopped up by God- about 30 miles, so that Israel couldn't even SEE it from where they stopped.  And where were they crossing?  Why right ACROSS from Jericho- the most powerful city in the area- in broad daylight, as one of the commentators pointed out, in full view of the Canaanites, which we learn from Rahab later on were already scared to death of Israel after God defeated Sihon and Og!  This was not only miracluous, it was a pure challenge to the inhabitants of the land.

But you know what?  There is a symbolism here, and it is built around how Israel is passing from their "old life" to a new one in the Land of Promise.  And to think, I didn't get it until I was doing a little more map research.  The Bible says that they were coming from a camp in Shittim.  And of course, I hadda know just where that was, as the map above didn't quite catch it.  So I went to wiki, and wiki gave me co-ordinates, which I clicked.  And when I clicked it, I zoomed in on the crossing point, and guess what I found?

They crossed at the VERY spot where John baptised Jesus!  Now the idea of going from the old life to the Land of Promise REALLY hits home!

Just because this was a short read, I'm going to throw in one more little "thing to think about"... and it deals with what happened next:

Jos 4:1  And it happened when all the people had completely passed over the Jordan, Jehovah spoke to Joshua saying,
Jos 4:2  Take twelve men for you out of the people, a man out of every tribe,
Jos 4:3  and command them saying, Take twelve stones from here, out of the middle of Jordan, out of the place where the priests' feet stood firm. And you shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the place where you shall stay tonight.
Jos 4:4  Then Joshua called the twelve men whom he had prepared from the sons of Israel, a man out of every tribe.
Jos 4:5  And Joshua said to them, Pass over in front of the ark of Jehovah your God into the middle of the Jordan. And every man take a stone on his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel,
Jos 4:6  so that this may be a sign to you when your sons ask in time to come, saying, What do you mean by these stones?
Jos 4:7  Then you shall answer them, The waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah. When it passed over Jordan, the waters of Jordan were cut off, and these stones shall be for a memorial to the sons of Israel forever.

So, 12 stones in the midst of the water pulled out as a memorial.  Hidden, perhaps, during the rainy season when it floods.  But as Encyclopedia.com says,

Deep and turbulent during the rainy season, the Jordan is reduced to a sluggish, shallow stream during the summer.

Does that mean the memorial stones still stood in ancient times, to be seen in the slow, sluggish summer?  Well...

Mat 3:6  And they were baptized by him (John the Baptist) in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
Mat 3:7  But seeing many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, O generation of vipers, who has warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
Mat 3:8  Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance;
Mat 3:9  and do not think to say within yourselves, We have Abraham as our father. For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.

Which stones?  Could they have been...

2018 A to Z mashup part one

As you all know, there are those out there who do the April A to Z blogging challenge every spring.  And, as you know, I have better things to do than clutter up my blog all month long with alphabetical posts.  So, for the last 3 or 4 years, I have done the mashup- short blurbs for each letter, in two strategically placed posts during the month.  This year, I have changed it up a little- putting the first post here near the beginning (mainly because I came up with what I consider a good idea and didn't want to forget).   At one point, I considered a "_ Lives Matter" theme, but couldn't see myself developing all the one-shot memes I would have needed.  Instead, today I thought, "How about a "all the things I hate about social media" theme?"  And it was good, and before day and night could pass on the first day, I went to work.  Here is part one.

A- When you answer a question on someone's post  and then watch as 15 other people who can't be bothered to read previous comments give the SAME answer- and some of them are curious why nobody is congratulating them on their great detective skills....

B- Anything involving Broccoli or Brussels Sprouts.  And just because I saw them while gathering ideas for this post, throw in okra and squash.

C- Hillary Clinton Photoshopped into an orange prison jumpsuit.  I mean, it was cute the first 10K times, but come on...

"Well, cute might be a strong term..."
D- Dogs.  Dogs, dogs, dogs.

Oh, come on.  You all know I'm just kidding.

E- Posts with exaggerated, unbelievable, or just plain false claims.  Am I the only one that knows the address to Snopes.com?  (Latest example:  The FDA announcing that autism is a side effect of vaccines.  Because they would totally do that, especially if it was true.)

F- When a liberal arguing with you blames your opinion on your watching FoxNews.  Dude, I would tell you how many news sources I use, but you might have to take your shoes off to decipher the meaning of such a high number.  And with feet like yours, I just as soon you keep your shoes on.

G- Getting notifications on Twitter That Joe Blow who you barely pay attention to liked a tweet by someone you never heard of on a subject you care less about.  How about we go back to just notifying me on people liking or re-tweeting my stuff and leave it at that?

H- All the spam on Twitter I had to block during the hurricanes last year while trying to actually get breaking info.  I was so glad to get the chance- actually, dozens of them- to live stream the Mayfield fight from the night before, and the chick with her top off was nice as well.

I- Basically illegible spam posts to old blog posts.  For example, this weekend's contestant:

Definitely believe that that you stated. Your favourite justification appeared to be at the net the simplest thing to have in mind of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while folks think about concerns that they plainly don't know about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the top and outlined out the entire thing with no need side effect , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thank you

J- "Share if you love Jesus, ignore if you don't".  Because Jesus really wants to guilt you into a Facebook post.  Please people, tell me you don't think these things are worth "Great Commission" points.

"Hey, and they get you a burger on one Friday in Lent..."

K- Kathy Griffin.  Nuff said.

"Say, what do you have against Peter's sister, anyway?"

L- (Pick 2 or three of your FB friends) like (Fill in the product being advertised).  I tell you what, if the friends mentioned actually HIT a like on your product's post, fine.  I don't care otherwise.  I will use the "hide this post" option.

And finishing out the first half...

M- "In case you missed it" on Twitter.  If I want to see it that bad, I'll scroll that far.  Now geddouttamyway.

Okay, so that's part one.  Stay tuned for part two around the middle of the month... or maybe the end... or when I get tired of trying not to lose the darn list, whichever....

David Hogg and storm trooping

Meet David Hogg, if you haven't by now.  High school student, survivor of a massacre.

Media darling.

What he is besides that, I don't know.  I haven't met him, or even watched him.  But, I know one thing he isn't.

A Nazi.

Months ago, I lost a left-wing friend because I refused to hear his endless comparisons of President Trump to Hitler, just over the things he himself didn't like about the man.  It puzzled me that he, as a Jew, would compare a man who merely had opposing political viewpoints to someone who had slaughtered so many of his own people.  But as I learned, he had taken all the hate in his soul and transferred it irremovably to the President and his family, and heaven and earth wouldn't change his mind.  Not long after I lost another electronic friend, and the only difference was she was female.  Same background, same hate.

But Sunday morning, as I thought about life, I realize that I had been listening to right wing FB acquaintances doing the same thing to this man.  Well, boy.  Because that IS what he is.  And because of his stand after the massacre, he has been called many things.

A foul mouthed, whiny brat.  Which may be true.

Manipulated by the left's political agenda.  After some of the other classmates talked about how CNN "coached" them, that also may well be true.

An idiot using symbols- like the one above- that he doesn't really understand, and trying to demand rights be taken away on one hand (our right to bear arms), while demanding his own rights ("Making us use clear backpacks is an invasion of our privacy") on the other.  Again, possibly true.

Because he is a boy.  Boys are young and easily manipulated.  Boys are foul mouthed these days, and often whiny.  Boys often say and do things without understanding the implications.

But he has also been called the new leader of the Hitler Youth.  A "storm trooper"

A Nazi.  And guess what?  That isn't right.

Let me be clear.  You might be able to compare certain actions and attitudes to similar things Nazis may have espoused.  You might even be able to self-righteously say, "But that's how the Nazis got started".  Really?  The Nazis got started by punk kids being prodded by the media?  The Nazis got tired of not being safe in their own schools?

One I will give you.  The Nazis WERE helped along by the incompetence and corruption of the administration before them.  Nice job, Broward County.

But now that I've covered your arguments about David, let me point out historical fact to you all.

What is a Nazi?  A Nazi is a person who converted this:

Into this:

And I will tell you as I told my former friends:  Unless you prove to me that his soul is so black that he is capable of this ghastly behavior, he is NOT a Nazi.  And YOU are a historical illiterate who needs to examine the hate in your OWN soul.  End of story.

Amid the Tomb

I wandered amid the tombs
Buried beneath my chains, I thrashed
my mind didn't have the room
the world that was mine had crashed

Then He came, and with a Word
everything had changed
my chains fell onto the earth
and the things that held me back fled like swine
over a cliff...
They took their name
and He gave me His.

And now I am in the tombs
Because they told me that He died
couldn't believe that true
But I'd seen it with my eyes

Then I saw a nearing light, and with a shaking
the rock had rolled away
the angel watched in wonder
and the Armies of man fell down before it
as if dead...
The angel smiled down on me
and said, Come and see.

There was no body in the tomb
wrappings, trappings lie, but no one there
something within my soul knew
I could feel the worldchange everywhere

Then I saw Him there

Then I saw Him standing right there, His eyes
how they looked into me
The day I felt my chains come off the second time
and the sun came up

and the Son came up...
