M10 Show week #110

Elvis:  Boy, you did have a bad week last week!

Yep, completely forgot to post my top five for last week in '61...

Well, ya could run 'em this week....

IF I had a chance in you-know-what to FIND that list- which I don't.  But I WILL get this week's 1960 list printed!  Along with a much more mobile M10, and this week's lone debut!  Speaking of which...

Say no more!  At #10, with a young lady who goes by the name of Jordana, here's more Dent May...

*********************************************************************

Another fun ride with Dent... but now on the sad side...

...Blackberry Smoke lost a founding member, drummer Brit Turner, to brain cancer.  A true warrior, he toured with a lot of health limitations, and was crucial to the M10 legacy his band carved out.

Ah'll tell 'im y'all said hey....

You do that.  So let's go to 1960, where Australia is topped, in the last of four non-connected weeks, by "Crash" Craddock (who would go on to add his first name, Billy, when he charted on the American country charts much later) with Boom Boom Baby.  Being a native act, he didn't fare well elsewhere, though the flip side of BBB kissed the bottom of the American charts.  In Canada, it was the midst of a 6 week run at the top for Jim Reeves and He'll Have to Go.  Also a top song in Australia, it would spend three weeks stuck at #2 here behind our #1- Percy Faith's Theme From A Summer Place...

Psst: Here's where Chris always mentioned, 'a song so good, I read the book twice, and it sucked!'

AHEM... It got only to 4 on Canada's CHUM charts, and 19 in Australia.  But yeah, it's a massive top ten all time hit for me, and not surprisingly my #1 for the week.  The rest of my top five...

2- A song moving up one spot to #9 this week, with a peak of 7 here, 8 in Canada, and lost and forgotten in Australia, the Everly Brothers and Let It Be Me...

3- A 16 notch mover to # 21 this week on Cashbox, it was a #2 peak here, 4 in Canada and 25 in Australia, Paul Anka's Puppy Love.

4- Sitting at 6 this week on CB after a 2-spot climb, a song that peaked 2 here (another victim of Percy Faith's 8 week run at the top), same in Canada, and 11 in Australia, Bobby Rydell's Wild One.

5- And finally, a 16-notch mover to #34 on CB this week, it would peak an astoundingly low 16 here, 20 in Canada, and miss the Australian charts, classic Drifters with This Magic Moment.

So now what?  We done?

Say, why don't we check out ol' Crash Craddock?

**********************************************************

So "Crash", like I said, came to the US to do Country in the 70s, and posted 18 top tens and 3 number ones, including the most famous, Rub It In.  And speaking of top tens...

I see whut ya did there...

Yep, pretty sneaky!  Here's the rest of this week's M10...

9- dropping from 5, the former #1 Cherry Baby by Jenny Lewis.

8- Surprisingly slipping a notch, Talk and I'm One Of The Rest.

7- Slipping 3, Buck Meek and Cuero Dudes.

6- Amira Elfeky, first stop:  A Dozen Roses up 4.

5- Up 3 for Real Estate and Haunted World.

4- Amira Elfeky, stop #2- falling from the top with Everything I Do Is For You.

3- Up 3, Camera Obscura and Big Love.

2- Dent May, stop #2- One Call, That's All,  up one.

And the new top dog, for her second time...

...Juliana Hatfield and Secret Messages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All right, I believe I missed making any screw-ups this time!

Good thing, we're getting a bad reputation!

  1. That clip was new to me but I liked it, most of the other songs I knew, there was some damn good music in those years.

  2. I enjoyed the Dent May video and would love to drive around in a Mercedes convertible. ☺ Never heard of Crash Craddock before, but the name "Billy" rings a bell.
