M10 show week 134

 

This week, we announce the Song of Summer '24!  This was year #9- eight years that we've actually did a SOS- and this week begins year #10!  So while I give you some of this week's M10 in the Summer countdown, let me give you the ones that didn't make the summer top ten first!

At #10, dropping 2, is Shaboozie's A Bar Song (Tipsy).

Also dropping 2 to 9 is Hazel English and Goner.

Debuting at #8 is one of those vacation game songs I was telling you about.  It came out in 2013, and they call themselves Emblem3.  See if you can guess who they were singing about...

First time I watched the video- that makes me like it even more!

At 7, Dorothy moves up a pair with Mud.

5 and holding for Jelly Roll and Dead End Road.

And 2, up two in just its second week, Beach House and Somewhere Tonight.

Which brings us to the top ten songs of summer- actually, the top eleven, because 30 points (1st being 10, 2nd being 9, etc) is my traditional cut off for big hit status, and eleven songs make that cut.  Those eleven give us 103 songs over the 8 seasons of summer on the M10, and I will let you in on where they rank there as well.

At #11, in a tie for 94th all time, Johnny Cash and Well Allright .

At #10, tied for 83rd all time- and this week's #1 for the second week- Beabadoobee with Beaches .

An 8th place tie, which is also a 76th place tie over all:

      This week's #6, and holding, The Linda Lindas and All In My Head .

      This week's #4, slipping a spot, Orion Sun and Mary Jane .

At #7, just dropping from the M10 this week and in a tie for 63rd, The Heavy Heavy and Sleeping On Grassy Ground .

At #6, pulling into a tie for 54th all time, Lucius (with Marcus Mumford) and Go Home .

At #5, the one song with a spot all to itself (53rd), Lorde and Take Me To The River .

At #4, tied for 35th all time, Rainbow Kitten Surprise and Meticulous .

At #3, tied for 23rd, Pierce The Veil and Karma Police .

At #2, and tied for 18th, Shannon & the Clams and What You're Missing .

And the top song of summer 2024- still at #3 this week, with a solid shot of taking over the year's top spot...

Oh, yeah, and they climb into a tie for 7th on the all time SOS list, and another week where they are will add them to the all time top 20!  Two good weeks will put them within striking distance of the years top song... whatever that might be...
