M10 show week #141

Okay, so we are all fed, showered, and ready to do this week's M10!  And this week, we'll go back to the 'top' of our list and target year 1985...

Elvis:  Say, you kinda died off on that doing the current #1 thing...

Let me put that this way: Shaboozy's song- an M10 hit- was cool and all, but the Billboard chart JUST dropped it from #1 after being there all of August, all of September, and all of October!  I can't really see the fun in that...

Yeah, variety is the spice a' life...

Okay, so how about you queue up the one debut this week whilst I bring up the 1985 charts...

No prob!  All the way up at #7, a Beatles cover by Lucinda Williams...

**************************************************

Wow, she did that better'n the Beatles!

Well you WOULD say that, but While My Guitar Gently Weeps is a favorite of mine... but she did an absolutely dynamite job on it, IMHO!  Okay, on to 1985...

Take on Me by A-ha (which recently hit here in acoustic version) is at the top of the Cashbox chart this week in '85. It would also top Australia, though Canada hung it up at #2.   In Australia a remake of I Got You Babe, with Chrissie Hynde of the Pretenders as Cher and UB40 as Sonny was on top. It would post a 28 here, and a 6 in Canada.  Meanwhile, Canada had Dire Straits and Money For Nothing- which had just dropped from Cashbox's top and would get to #4 in Australia.  Now, those big movers...

Tied for fourth with 8 spots up:
Be Near Me, ABC- Nowhere near my favorite from these guys, it hops up to 17 this week on CB.  It would peak 9 here, 22 in Canada, and apparently never made it to Australia.

Broken Wings, Mister Mister- Again, not my favorite from this band.  A future #1 here and in Canada (so much for my taste) and 4 in Canada, it moved to #25 this week.

Tied for second with 9 spots up:

Separate Lives, Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin- Same comment here as well, and again, I was in the minority.  Both Canada and CB topped it at the top, Australia at 14.  It jumped to #22.

Alive and Kicking, Simple Minds.  Now this song I liked, even if I kept changing the title line to "I like it Kinky".  3 here, 4 in Canada, 21 in Australia, it landed at 38 this week.

And tops, with a ten-spot jump...

...ZZ Top with Sleeping Bag!  Up to 36 this week on CB, it peaked at 8 here, 18 Canada, 36 Australia.

Whut with yer comments, I'm guessin' you didn't have much inna line of favorites this week...

Actually, there were quite a few I loved this week- and a few I hated, none more so than Aretha Franklin and Who's Zoomin' Who-  in fact, I'll give you FIVE of 'em!

5- Night Ranger, Four In The Morning (I Can't Take Any More), sitting at 24 for a second week.  Billboard peaked it at 19, Canada 84, didn't hit in Australia.

4- And We Danced, the Hooters, 26 this week.  A top ten in Australia at #6, BB topped it at 21 here, 51 in Canada.

3- I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down, Paul Young at #13.  Laurie can attest that this song gets played very loud, and I shout along with the chorus.  13 here, 16 Canada, 25 Australia.

2- Two of our #1 come next.  Take On Me takes my #2 spot...

1- ...and Money For Nothing would be my topper.

Not much of an Aretha fan, are ya?

No.  No.  I remember her at some awards show with a set of backup singers that looked like the first three contestants that beat her in a trencherman's contest, and ever since I refer to her as "Aretha and the Heavyweights".  Takes all I got to merely type her right name.

Uh, yer gonna get us sued.  Shall I call Lawyer Bellbottom?

Let's hope mere opinion doesn't come to that.  While I go sit in time out, how about you give out the rest of the M10:

Okey-dokey, Boss!

Stuck at 10, Nothing More and Jenny.

Similarly stuck at 9, the Tragically Hip and Wait So Long.

Hey, boss, we skipped a debut...

Yeah, I had some issues with my recording of the list this week...

Well, lemme fix this!  At #8, here's the acid jazz man, Matt Berry, with Kith Liv an' his new one- I Gotta Limit...

**************************************************************

Meanwhile, illuminati hotties stuck at 6 with Sleepin' In...

Down one fer Linkin Park and The Emptiness Machine at 5...

..and fer Geowulf an' Nightmare at 4...

Up two fer Leon Bridges and That's What I Love....

Stuck at 2, Honeycutters an' Jukebox....

An' still at the top...

...Linkin Park an' Heavy Is The Crown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, you kin come outta time out now....
