M10 show week #120

Elvis:  Whut, no excuse ta get outta work today?

I'm not lazy like you!  However, if there was a week, this would be a candidate for it... I was very unsettled about the bottom end of a chart that ends up with 3 debuts...

So, like, not dure whether the ones shoulda dropped?

I think it's just one of those weeks where even my 15 (which I never show here) wasn't big enough, and some songs that might have had a better time of it never got the chance...

It is whut it is, amigo.  Shall I play the first one, or ya gonna change yer mind agin?

No, it's written down now.  Please proceed!

Yep!  Comin' in at 9 is a song that we wouldn't a' heard 'ceptin Laurie saw a news story about the leader of this English outfit who passed.  She asked if'n Chris knew 'em (he didn't), but looked into their roster an' found one from a 1991 album he liked.  This is Pale Saints...

Hm... fits in well with yer psychedelic phase... but the vid's a bit strange...

Yeah, I was beginning to wonder whether he was singing to a girl, or that mouse!  So anywho, we are in Target Year 1977, and despite my best efforts to click on the WRONG week, I have a top five for us.  First, though, our #1s this week.  Both Cashbox and Canada have Leo Sayer's When I Need You at the top.  When it first came out, I loved it- but then I found out it was Leo Sayer, who had just been at the top with the horrid You Make Me Feel Like Dancing.  I never did get back the feel for it.

In Australia, it was the Andrew Lloyd Weber comp by Julie Covington, Don't Cry For Me Argentina.  I know the song because of when Evita blew into town years back, but it never released in North America- until Madonna covered it 20 years later.  Before I give my next debut and my 1977 top 5- our drivers in the neighborhood for food, so hang tight everyone!

Ah!  Those sausage rolls rocked!

Yep, another victory for Oley's!  And now, our debut at #8, a song I only heard a couple days ago.  You might have seen H.E.R. on a Nationwide Insurance ad a while back.  Here she is playing 'featured guest with M10 newcomer Lila Ike...

That there's some smooth soul, man!

And now, on to my top five from this week in 1977...

5- Mainstreet, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.  Climbing 28 to 23 this week on CB, it would peak at 19 here... but was a full blown #1 in Canada- and MIA in Australia.

4- Hello Stranger, Yvonne Elliman.  Peaking at 14 this week, it was a 13 here... and again, a no-show in Australia.

3- I'm Your Boogie Man, KC and the Sunshine Band.  Up from 4 to 3 on CB, it would hit #1 on both North American charts, though a grudging 38 in Australia.

2- Dreams, Fleetwood Mac.  I'm guessing this would be dropping out of the top spot this week on my old chart, though it climbed 7 to 5 on it's way to #1 here and in Canada.  Australia?  At least it got top 20 at #19....

And my #1 for this week in 1977...

The Climax Blues Band with Couldn't Get It Right!  It moved from 9 to 8 this week on it's way to a #7 peak; Canada had it at 8, and once again, nothing in Australia.

Ex-cuuse me...

Oh, good grief, what did you do...

No, nuthin' like that.  It's time fer the high debut!  Coming in at #7 here's the Rainbow Kitten Surprise...

***************************************

I get the idear that we might be looking at our second psychedelic summer...

I don't know about that, but we are one week out from the yearly Songs Of Summer competition!  And when that finishes in early September, we'll be- God willing- looking at M10 year # 10...

That's burnt, man!

So one last time before the festivities start, the rest of the M10....

10- Down 3, Bob Jr and Bethany and Always (All The Time).

6- Shannon and the Clams, down 3 in week #7 with Real Or Magic.

5- Wings up 5 with the Junior's Farm redux.

4- Up one for the Purple Disco Machine and Honey Boy.

3- Also up one for Lorde and Take Me To The River.

2- Kacey Musgraves and Cardinal... now #14 all time.

And the new #1, ironically...

...Real Estate and Somebody New!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's it for now; tune in next week as we start the Songs Of Summer!
